29 Things To Do Before I Turn 29

July 22, 2010

Sooo, it is my 28th Birthday!!!  I am a BIG believer in celebrating Birthdays in style, since I think everyone on this planet deserves one day a year where their life is honored.  Normally, I travel somewhere special, however this year I decided to remain home, since the day I turned 27 I left the country 7 times and I am going to be traveling again soon.  On my 25th Birthday I sneaked into traveled to Cuba and while I was there I started my 1st list of “things to do before my next Birthday.”  I believe I have done a decent job thus far of accomplishing everything on the lists.  I really enjoy the challenge and I find that these lists help enrich my life.

This year I thought I would be brave and share what my next list says:

  1. Travel to 2 new countries
  2. Have the wedding of my dreams
  3. Have the honeymoon of my dreams
  4. Volunteer at least 5 times
  5. Run 10 miles in a row at a 8.5 minute pace
  6. Get a new tattoo
  7. Get an old tattoo redesigned
  8. Read an entire novel in Spanish
  9. Have 1 travel story published in print
  10. Take a cooking class
  11. Take a photography class and if I have the money buy a new camera
  12. Find the perfect lipstick
  13. Go for a solo-hike in the Blue Ridge Mountains
  14. Take a yoga class at least once a week
  15. Attend a social media or blogging event
  16. Surf at a new beach
  17. Contact an old friend
  18. Finally sell all of the stuff in my Ebay pile (okay, piles)
  19. Watch a sunset
  20. Watch a sunrise
  21. Figure out my greatest weakness and realize how to make it my greatest strength
  22. Write the 1st page in my future novel
  23. Try a new restaurant once a month
  24. Write a letter to myself to open when I am 50
  25. Blog about my 3 different trips to Australia and my trip to Bolivia and Peru since they were each life changing trips
  26. Drink more champagne
  27. Eat more chocolate
  28. Begin to study Portuguese
  29. Look back and celebrate the past 28 years, where I have come from and what I have achieved, and prepare for the next 2 years before I turn the BIG 3-0

Amazing list! And I know you’ll accomplish all of them… I can only imagine what you’re going to throw for your wedding, my dear. Study up that Portugeuse! Can’t wait to hear about that. I had problems mixing it up with my Spanish haha. HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!

Nice list! I always like reading lists like these from other people. I need to create my own bucket list. It seems like a lot to accomplish for you, but I think you can knock most of that stuff out! Nice cake 🙂

Drink more champagne. Eat more chocolate. Good items. And I will also help you with those things when you’re here 🙂

I can help with the photography “class” thing too. I can teach you stuff…and we can drink champagne and eat chocolate at the same time. BAM. Three items off your list right there!

Happy birthday again and I hope you had a spectacular day!

Wow, has it really been three years since Cuba? CRAZY. (That means it’s almost my blog’s birthday, too, I s’pose since I started it the week we got back with the intention to recap Cuba…and never managed to do so!)

Funny, I was JUST tonight talking to one of my travel writer colleagues on the beach in Tas about our Cuban adventures…he was there in ’89 but actually had a valid visa so he didn’t have to deal with all the mess we had to with Cubana Air or the immigration worries or anything (wheels catching on fire, stamps in passports, Cojiba smuggling, the whole nine yards ha!).

Happy birthday! Have you and Lucas decided where you’re going on your ‘moon???

I love the list! So your 8.5 minute pace totally leaves me in the dust! I also want to take a photography class this year as well.

Wow, Andi, the only thing I want to say after reading that post and your list is — “I love you!!!” Do you have any idea what an INSPIRATION you are??? Do you know how rare people like you are?? You are just amazing. I am inspired to make a list like that for myself — what a motivation!! And I didn’t know you wanted to write a book! Ahhh I’m so excited for you!!
    Big, BIG hugs to you!!
    Love,
    Vanessa

I *love* lists like this and love even more than you posted it. Putting pen to paper each year is a great way to brainstorm & accomplish! At the start of 2009 a friend came up with 1 new thing to try each month and it was really fun and inspiring to hear about his progress 🙂 Keep us posted later about pursuing these dreams!!

I like your idea about writing a letter to yourself in the future. Kind of like a time capsule. You would probably be a very different person then. It would certainly be interesting to see how your outlook on things has changed over the years. Maybe revealing. Maybe amusing. Maybe melancholy and nostalgic. Maybe heartwarming. I guess it depends what kind of life you’ve lived in the meantime. I’d actually like to do the opposite. Write a letter to myself when I’m 50+ that I can read today. That could come in handy 🙂

Congratulations on having one of the most sophisticated blogs Ive come across in some time! Its just incredible how much you can take away from something simply because of how visually beautiful it is. Youve put together a great blog space –great graphics, videos, layout. UMMM this is the greatest idea EVER! I think I am going to use this idea for my upcoming b-day. After you turn 30, all your birthday’s start to run together with no real purpose except to age you, loll.
