Dominican Republic: Day 1

July 4, 2011

Check in: Occidental Allegro Puerto Plata Hotel

It was a looong day of traveling, but amidst the incredible frustrations there were also some unforgettable moments that reminded me why it is I seek to explore every single inch of the world’s surface.  One of those moment’s was when I walked into my hotel’s suite and was greeted with the most lovely creation!

Hola querida! I found the exact same shape of a towel swan in my sink in Cuba one night. It was a perfect representation of the contradictions on that island and, though it made me fleetingly sad, it also made me smile. Happy to see towel birds traveling in the DR with you!

Oh wow, I love this comment! I have been thinking so much of Cuba while on this trip. The dolphins that I swam with today were from Cuba. Towel swans are the best, si? Besos!!!

Wow. I had a super bizarre travelling experience in Turkey where after our waiter tried to force feed me at dinner (seriously he grabbed my fork and tried to put it in my mouth) the next day after they came and cleaned our rooms they made a towel sculpture on the bed. I like to think of it as a towel apology.

OMG, I can’t believe that happened to you! Thankfully, the OA did not leave the towel swan as an apology. They have been nothing but INCREDIBLE to me!!!

What a beautiful thing to greet you after your exhausting travels. It’s those little things that do so much to make you feel special and pampered and relaxed. 🙂
