Dominican Republic: Day 5 (Part 2)

August 4, 2011

There are sunsets and then there are sunsets.  This was definitely the latter.  Both the sky and water looked as though they were on fire with a kaleidoscope of colors.

It was the perfect introduction for the even more vibrant colors I would be witnessing later in the evening at Ocean World Casino.  I was there to see Bravissimo, a Vegas-style show that takes spectators on an enchanted journey throughout the Caribbean.  The show is located on the third floor of the the aquatic themed casino.

Bravissimo has been given the title, “Best show of its kind in the Caribbean,” by many and it is easy to see why.  The twenty-six dancers and singers definitely know how to entertain.

Between the electrifying music and costumes, I was instantly transported to an exotic and glamorous world.  My favorite act of the night was the much beloved song, “Por Amor,” which was passionately performed by the two main singers.

The finale was spectacular as well.  It was a representation of all of the animals found in Ocean World and the costumes were works of art.  With performances every Tuesday – Saturday night beginning at 9PM, this show should not to be missed if visiting Puerto Plata!

Make sure to stay until the very end of the show, because that is when you can take pictures with your favorite performers.  I only wish that I had been able to try on one of those headdresses!

These photos are great but I loved the short clip of the show even better. And how did you manage to get stage seating? I swear I was in the middle of leaving a comment on the last post about the puppy and refresh and a new post is up. Keep it moving keep it moving.

Those photos are so gorgeous! How do you pick up all those different colors in the water?

I wonder where the inspiration for the costumes comes from? These kind of remind of me of photos of Carnivale outfits in Rio. Is it a nod to a traditional form of dress?

Thank you sooo much! I don’t know how the water shot came out so well? The inspiration comes from every country in the Caribbean and yes their traditional form of dress. Most of the countries actually have Carnival’s of their own! I’ve been to the one in the Bahamas and it was incredible.

Oh my god, Andi. All of the pictures in this post are gorgeous, but I can’t take my eyes off of those first two! I don’t know where the most beautiful sunset I’ve seen is (maybe Hawaii?) but those by far surpass anything I’ve ever experienced. Amazing!!

Wow, what an incredible compliment, thank you!!! It was indeed one of the best sunsets of my life. My favorite was in Brasil, but this came close, because it totally took me by surprise. One minute it was a bit cloudy and the next minute the sky was dropdead gorgeous!

There is an ice cream place in Chile called Bravissimo. I think it’s actually almost as awesome as this dance show. They have a million flavors and it’s delicious. No amazing pink dresses and headdresses, sadly 😛

Andi, I love your shot of the blazing water. I often find that most photographers focus entirely on the sun & surrounding landscape but to notice what else is going around you takes a special eye. Congrats on such a memorable photo.

This comment really touched me, thank you! I agree 100%, as it’s easy to get lost in the sunset when it’s so spectacular like in this case. I always try to see though where else the reflection of sun setting is and in this case it was the water. Thanks so much for your kind words my friend.
