My Wedding & Honeymoon: Day 6-10 (Part 5)

September 16, 2011

In previous posts I mentioned that my maternal grandparents were unable to make it to my wedding due to health reasons.  This was heartbreaking for all of us, as I am their only grandchild and they had always dreamed of being a part of my special day.  Before getting on the airplane, which would take me to Buenos Aires, they surprised me with the matching necklace to my unique engagement ring.  They had it personally designed and asked me to wear it during my wedding, so that at least they would be close to me in spirit.

Just moments before my ceremony, I decided that I needed to Skype my grandparents and let them know that they were in my thoughts.  I had no idea while I was speaking with them that Kyle, my wedding photographer, was filming me.  In fact, she herself had forgotten about the video and only shared it with me several weeks ago.  Every time I watch it I tear up.  I hate that they could not be there, however I know I am blessed to simply have them in my life, period.

While I was Skyping them, everyone else was anxiously getting ready for the ceremony.  And, of course, posing for more photos!

As I rode down the elevator with my Mom I swear I thought my heart was going to leap out of my chest.

Had the moment really arrived?  Which is your favorite pic?

You know what else I forgot? Taking that last picture? I hadn’t really looked at it closely until but the anticipation on your face is priceless!

I so know this feeling! Neither of my living grandparents (both grandmas) could make it out to Spain for my wedding. It broke my heart to know that they couldn’t share the day with me, but I also knew it would be too difficult for them to travel. Having a wedding so far away is certainly bittersweet!

You couldn’t have said it more succinctly…bittersweet! I wish with all of my heart that they could have been there, but I’m so happy they could be the witnesses at our 2nd wedding!!!

Hahaha isn’t it cute!?! I used to only speak German with them, but I’ve forgotten SO much after studying Chinese and Spanish! I could never forget “Ich liebe dich” though!!!

I can’t watch the video (no bandwidth=no video-watching on the ship), but I totally know how you feel as the only living grandparent of Scott’s or mine–my Granddad–also could not fly across country for our wedding due to health reasons =/

Andi, reading these wedding posts and looking at the photos is like riding an emotional rollercoaster. Inevitably, all important events are filled with highs and lows, and it looks like you handled everything with grace and poise. I’m looking forward to future installments.

Life, especially the good bits, are filled with ups and downs. And if we didn’t experience the downs, well the ups just wouldn’t be as glorious…like marrying your soul mate after being thousands of miles apart for 6 years. 🙂

Maybe that’s why I was so obsessed with the details, because I knew everything was being documented? I felt like since this was a once-in-a-lifetime event every little thing needed to be recorded in some way!

I’m playing catch up with all your wedding posts, it’s incredible that you were able to document it like this, so much detail! And gorgeous! I love the video of you and your grandparents. It reminds me of mine who are so far away and unable to travel, yet very close to my heart. That was really sweet of them to have the necklace made and to figure out Skype! shoot, mine are not that technologically inclined!!!!

Haha, they didn’t get on Skype, I just called them with Skype! I should have probably mentioned that. They are not technological savvy at all. I’m going to treasure the necklace they gave me for the rest of my life. Thanks sooo much for your truly lovely words — they mean a lot to me!

Awe that is wonderful that you have the memory on video. It looks like a beautiful day and thank God for modern technology that you were able to skype with your Grandparents. Congratulations on all your happiness.

Speaking of videos from your wedding, darling, I was on Youtube the other day and under the “people you might like” section, your user account popped up! I thought, ‘Wow! What a coincidence!’ (Though it might have been from viewing those vids from your Amazon jungle posts).

I found the videos of your wedding and sat there and watched them all the way through. Everything I saw was so unbelievably beautiful and I really did feel tears in my eyes as you and Lucas were saying your vows (Is that weird for you?).

Your wedding looked absolutely unbelievable. 🙂

Hahaha no one was supposed to see that!!!!!!! I’m so impressed you found them! I’m glad you enjoyed them, though I’m working on having them edited. They are too long. I’m SO touched that you teared up! Thanks from the bottom of my heart for your thoughtful and loving words. XOXO
