Puerto Rico & Dominica: Day 4 (Part 1)

September 24, 2012

Normally, I am not one to brag, but I am confident that my husband and I had the best one year anniversary ever, like in the history of the world.  We had an entire day of exploration planned, however as soon as we both awoke, we looked at each other and said, “We are canceling our plans and staying here at Rosalie Bay Resort!”  Let this be a reminder to all travelers: always listen to your intuition.

We left our gorgeous villa for breakfast and along the way a man who works at the property offered to get us some fresh coconuts.  When I say fresh, I mean he climbed up the palm tree and cut the coconuts down himself.

Then, armed with our fruit, we wandered to the best seat on the entire property, as it afforded a breathtaking view of where the Rosalie River meets the Atlantic Ocean.

In between sips of the delicious milk, we reminisced over moments from the last seven years of our relationship; some of them made us laugh, others made us tear up, but all of them made us realize we could not have found better lifelong partners for ourselves — if there is such a thing as soul mates, we were definitely them.  After we finished our coconuts and storytelling, we finally enjoyed a leisuraly organic breakfast, and then headed back out to the wild black sand beach where we discovered that we were not alone.

The untamed beauty of the Nature Island is something that is indescribable and otherworldly.  I hope the following photos encourage you to put Dominica on your dream destination list.

In the center of Rosalie Bay Resort is a saltwater pool lined with onyx and surrounded by a river rock patio that was sweetly calling our names in the afternoon.

Sometimes I honestly cannot believe that I wake up to this face every day.

Once we felt as though we had taken in an adequate amount of sunbathing, it was time for margaritas and pizza.

Then we stumbled back to our villa for the best couples massage we have ever had.  The massages themselves were nice, but it was the setting itself that was so spectacular.  We had them on our open aired balcony, which was adjacent to the Rosalie River.

Imagine having your muscles massaged next to your loved one while a cool breeze gently kisses your body amidst the tropical sounds of Dominica.  It was truly the ultimate in relaxation.

We knew we were going to finish the evening in an unforgettable way, but we had no idea that our life would forever be changed. . .

I LOVE the filter style of the photos – beautiful! I am amazed that you find pizza in a lot of your Latin journeys – guess it is universally loved!

Congratulations Andi! What a perfect place to celebrate. I’m confident that it was better than our one year anniversary, which involved me dropping Rob at the airport at 6am for an interstate work commitment. We are making up for it on this trip! 🙂

While it IS absolutely gorgeous, I’m not letting you get away with saying you had the best first anniversary ever! Well ok, you can have the day, since you were there on the anniversary itself, but I would like to claim co-best first anniversary trip – Hawaii really was wonderful.

Congratulations on your beautiful marriage! I have always always wanted to go to Dominica (it is one of three islands in the Caribbean that I must go to some day) but your posts have only made the urges stronger!
