Stay Warm With A Parka

September 30, 2016

The winter season can be magical in quite a few ways. Snow, bracing cold, Christmas, and the promise of a New Year are just some of the reasons why people look forward to a great winter. But the cold weather can bring many challenges along with it and one of the biggest requirements during winter is proper clothing to keep you warm! There are quite a few choices when it comes to warm clothing:

  • Coats and jackets
  • Shawls, sweaters, cardigans
  • Thermal clothing
  • Gloves and boots

Outerwear is one of the best ways in which you can protect yourself and within this category, there are winter parkas that can keep you warm and protected against the elements of winter.

Buy Online

Buying online is one of the best ways in which you can pick up different kinds of winter wear, when it comes to parkas. You should start well before the onset of cold weather, so you are well-protected when the season changes. Buying online will also give you the option of looking at different types of parkas:

  • Different materials
  • With or without fur lining
  • Quilted parkas
  • Parkas of different lengths

Material

Depending on the severity of winter that you face, you should buy parkas for winter based almost entirely on the material with which they are made of. A heavy wool parka is great for severe cold. However, if it is not going to be a tough winter to weather, then a medium heavy parka should suffice. Parkas traditionally come with hoods. Here again, you can look for a lined parka hood, so you can pull up the hood if you are stepping into cold winds.

Length

Conventionally, parkas go down to the knee level. It does make sense for you to pick up a knee-length parka, simply because it offers more coverage. It is also great, because you can wrap up your legs underneath you if you are sitting outdoors.

Other things that you can check out are:

  • The length of sleeves
  • Insulation for the parka
  • Number of buttons and zippers, so you can make your parka completely wind-proof
  • Waterproof parkas

Filled Parka

This category of parka is pretty popular when it comes to winter wear. Find out what the filling is made of and you could also look at something called “fill power”, which is indicative of the parka’s insulation prowess. It is also good to remember that you should look for the parka that gives you great value for money rather than looking for the cheapest one. If you need more protection from the parka, you may need to pay more.

Weight is another criterion to keep in mind. There is a balance between lightweight and the heavier parkas. Again, if it is a mild winter then you can get by in a lightweight, slightly quilted parka, but if you are facing severe winters then invest in a good-quality, durable, and insulated parka that will comfortably see you through many winter seasons.
