How To Prepare For Your Camping Trip At Bryce Canyon

May 1, 2017

Bryce Canyon camping is an ideal choice if you are planning a trip to the Grand Canyon. The Grand Canyon National Park is a popular tourist attraction with millions of people from around the world visiting this place of interest every year. It is without doubt one of the most spectacular natural attractions that you can find in the United States and one of the best ways that you can truly enjoy the Grand Canyon experience is by camping in the great outdoors. There are many different camping options available to visitors, designed with different levels of tolerance in mind. From the traditional backcountry tent options through to luxurious recreational vehicle, there is plenty of choice for everyone.

Bryce Canyon Camping: Key Considerations

Do not be fooled by the beautiful landscape and scenery of the Bryce Canyon. For those intending to venture out and enjoy camping at Bryce Canyon, it can be a harsh and unforgiving place if you are not well prepared. The weather conditions can be intense at times and extremes in weather can cause serious problems. From strong heat to winter snowfall and flash flooding, it can even catch the most prepared camper off guard. The National Park will limit access to certain camping areas at particular times of the year, so it is always worth checking that the park you wish to camp at is open.

The majority of campsites are open between mid-May and then close mid-October again. If you wish to camp around these dates, then you will need to obtain a backcountry permit. Before your trip, it is also advised that you are aware of the resources that you will need and safety factors that you will need to take into consideration.

South Or North Rim?

The South Rim of the National Park has a lot more resources than the North Rim. It also has many more facilities, such as shops and restaurants. However, the weather can cause serious problems and it is not unheard of to experience serious electrical storms, significant snowfall, and extreme heat depending on the time of the year. Weather forecasts should regularly be consulted. If in doubt do not travel.

The South Rim is always a popular choice for camping. It has easier access to the village facilities such as post office, grocery store, shops, and medical center. With a little preparation beforehand, there is no reason why your Bryce Canyon Camping trip cannot be a success and a memorable experience.

How To Travel The Grand Canyon

Your vehicle should be in good condition with adequate fuel supplies to ensure you get from Point A to Point B. It is also recommended that you take key tools with you, so you can make any repairs. Necessary tools include a spare tire and vehicle jack. There is a car repair shop open on the South Rim, but for anything major, your vehicle will need to be towed to a nearby city.

The Wildlife

Be aware that you are in the outdoors and you may encounter various forms of wildlife, some of which can be dangerous such as snakes. Keep your distance and avoid feeding wildlife. Also, ensure you do not have snacks left unattended your sleeping grounds.
