How To Pack Up Your House Before Your Removalist Arrives

January 13, 2018

So, you have finally decided to move and you have made the decision to use the services of professional movers. To help the process go much more smoothly, you need to be ready for their arrival. Here are some things Nelson Management recommends you to do beforehand.

De-clutter

The first thing you need to do is to get rid of things that you no longer use. There is no need for you to transport useless stuff to your new house. Keep in mind that you will be paying for the total weight of the stuff moved, so the more things you have to move, the more you will pay.

You can reduce this cost by de-cluttering your house. You can throw away things that you no longer use and are not in good condition. For the stuff that is still in good condition, you can donate them to charity or family and friends or you can sell them.

Only pack things that they will agree to transport

No need to waste your time packing up things that the movers will not transport. Therefore, you have to do your homework and find out what stuff they do not move. This includes:

  • Plants
  • Hazardous materials and chemicals like paint or acids
  • Frozen foodstuff – Use up your food items before the moving day.

Inventory

Create an inventory and come up with an itemized list of the stuff in your house. This way, you can cross check together with the removalist Brisbane professionals that all your things have been delivered when you get to your destination.

This list will also come in handy in case something happens to your stuff and you need to file an insurance claim. With a list, you can be sure which items were lost or damaged during the move.

Take lots of photos

Take out your digital camera and take photos of your stuff. This way, in case anything gets damaged or lost, you will have photographic evidence to prove its original condition. Concentrate on photographing your most valuable possessions. You never know when this might come handy.

Snacks and drinks

Depending on how big your house is and what needs to be packed, it might take several hours or even several days for the professional movers to pack up everything and be ready for the move. You can be a good host and do some things to make them work better.

For instance, show them all your stuff and tell them what you expect from them. It is also important that you show them where the bathroom is. If possible, have some bottled water and snacks that they snack on during their break. This will help them stay refreshed and work better.

Get specialty movers

You might need to find specialty movers for some of your things. These include things like pets and plants. If you have lots of plants and pets, it is better that you make these arrangements, especially if they can’t all fit into your private car or in case you don’t have your own car.
