As much as you love them, sometimes you need a break from the kids to recharge your batteries. Indulge in a grown-ups retreat and focus on getting some peace and quiet during your vacation. If you travel during non-peak seasons you will find less crowds to deal with. There are plenty of adult only accommodation options where you are guaranteed total tranquillity, since the last thing you want on a break from your children is to be surrounded be other peoples’ children! Here are five places to go for peace and quiet, so you can go back to your life feeling refreshed and ready for the challenges being a parent brings:

Queenstown

Queenstown is on the South Island of New Zealand. This picturesque city sits on the shores of Lake Wakatipu, a stunning lightening shaped fresh water lake that has a pretty flat trail that you can walk or bicycle along. Visit Kawarau Gorge and you can watch bungee jumping off of the suspension bridge and give it a try if you dare. Rent a car and tour through the area. You can easily drive through the wine region and stop and try samples along the way. You can also easily reach Fox Glacier and Milford Sound in a few hours.

Rome, Italy

Rome is a bustling city that is filled with fascinating places to visit. Explore the wonders of Vatican City where you can see The Sistine Chapel and St. Peter’s Basilica (and also go shopping at the stylish shops nearby). Visit the more than 2,000 year old Colosseum that has survived through several earthquakes. Climb the Spanish Steps where you can enjoy people watching and see Trinita dei Monti. You can take different walking tours of the city to learn more about the fascinating history and the best places to eat.

Lisbon, Portugal

Lisbon is the beautiful capital city of Portugal and it is filled with beautiful architecture, cobblestone streets, and stunning beaches. This is the perfect destination for a little getaway and for the ultimate stress-free visit. Be sure to book your taxi from Lisbon Airport in advance so that you do not have to worry about dealing with public transport or queuing for a cab. Visit Praça do Comércio, a stunning square near the Tagus river. Explore the beautiful examples of Asian and Europea at Museu Nacional de Arte Antiga. Head up the hill to see São Jorge Castle, where you can see stunning views of the city and the river. Visit the stunning architecture of Mosteiro dos Jerónimos, a monastery that is a UNESCO World Heritage site.

Cambodia

Cambodia is in South East Asia and it is a great place for travelers who are looking for peace and quiet. Take a trip to Phenom Penh where you can visit the Royal Palace, the Silver Pagoda and Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum before heading to Angkor Wat which is near Siem Reap. Angkor Wat is the largest religious monument in the world and you can spend hours wandering through this impressive architectural wonder. There are plenty of excellent choices for accommodation in Siem Reap.

Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka is the perfect holiday destination for those who wish to immerse themselves in the beauty of nature. You can rent a guesthouse on a tea plantation and spend your days wandering through the lush trails on the plantation. There are many breathtakingly beautiful beaches to relax on and Nilaveli Beach is a quiet area with few tourists. You can explore ancient Buddhist and Hindu monuments at Sithulpawwa and Dambulla Cave Temple.
