Guest Post: Partying In Paphos

You hear about Ayia Napa in Cyprus like it is the place to be: the 21st century Ibiza.  When I was booking my next excursion, I was planning on getting away from it all, not throwing myself into a nightlife that I (at the ripe old age of 22) would not keep up with. Thus, after plenty of research, particularly from the very useful mydestination.com/Cyprus, I was able to get away from it all — without getting thrown in and without going to bed at 9.30pm every night.

If you feel like getting away from it all, what better than a trip to the beach?  As usual, the beach was the first place I hit upon arrival.  Although it was incredibly busy (my fault for choosing to visit Paphos, one of Cyprus’ main cities), the scuba diving opportunities more than made up for it.  I chose the diving site of the Amphorae Caves, which upon reflection was one of the most beautiful diving sites I have ever visited.  The blazing Cyprian sun scored its way through the transparent sea, illuminating the colors of the cave that no camera could ever do justice.  Aside from the multitude and variety of diving sites, Cyprus is particularly good for beginner scuba divers; the crystal clear sea is incredibly comforting as it allows you to see exactly what you are surrounded by.

Although I had chosen to steer clear of Napa, I was far from wanting to leave my dancing shoes to gather dust, so I went in pursuit of a bar that I tracked down on my research.  Hollywood Music Bar has everything you would want to get the most out of the Cyprus nightlife.  D.J.s play a whole manner of music until the late hours, the cocktails are divine, and it has a pool table for the more competitive.  However, I steered clear from that, too many bad memories of being beaten repeatedly at pool during University.  In addition, there is a different theme every night and the night I visited was the Hen Night theme.  Pink, glitter, and Abba were the trends of the evening and it was fabulous!  The deals on the drinks were not bad either.  If you fancy hitting a club, be sure to go on a weekday, since there are far more drink deals and cheaper entry than on the weekends.

If you want to steer clear of the ‘rave hotspots’ of Cyprus, but want to kick up your heels, then Paphos, for me, was perfect!
