Tips To Recover After A Long Day At Work

The fast-paced world has seen many people take more than one job, or even one demanding job, to sustain his/her needs and responsibilities. Although you may have an almost similar routine at work, there are days when priorities will conflict, make several mistakes, or even have more than you can handle.  Ensure that you have appropriate health coverage, compare Medicare supplement plans. This leaves you feeling drained and tired at the end of the day. Most people will want nothing more than just lie flat on their beds, and sleep. While this may be a good option, there are many other ways you can recover from the days work. Here are a few tips to help get you started. 

Lie Down With Your Eyes Closed

As mentioned before, lying down does help your muscles and brain cool off and rejuvenate after a hard day at work.  However, there is a big difference between lying down and doing nothing and engaging in other activities, such as reading or watching something on your phone/tv as you lie down. Simply lying down (without engaging in any other activity) helps the brain relax much faster than if you engage in anything else, say play a game on the phone. That said, start by lying down on a comfortable bed or sofa, close your eyes, then try not to think about anything. A short nap might also help you relax even better. Be sure not to take a long nap as doing so might interrupt your normal circadian rhythm, making it hard to sleep at night.  


Engaging in some form of physical exercise can help you recover from a hard day at work. Exercise helps improve blood circulation, which again accelerates the rate at which body cells recover. With the increased blood flow, brain cells and muscles will get the much-needed oxygen and nutrients to keep them healthy. Regular exercise is also a great stress buster. You don’t necessarily have to take on the heaviest of exercises to stay fit. Simple exercises such as taking the stairs, doing some yoga, going for a short run/jog, and even swimming do come in handy. 

Take A Warm Shower or Bath

Taking a bath/shower immediately after getting from work can be very relaxing.  The feeling/sensation of warm water running over your skin or simply soaking in a warm bath helps inflamed muscles relax, relieving any tension you might have had. If soaking in the tub or bathing seems too much, try taking a shower instead.  This is particularly effective when feeling sore and just want to wash off any sweat and slide into more comfortable clothes. Showers don’t take long too; hence shouldn’t too much hustle for you. 

Slide into Clothes You Are Most Comfortable In

While suits and uniforms might give you a sense of belonging, fashion, or class while at work, these should be for just that, work. As fashionable as most of these clothes are, they will only remind you of work, work stress and can be restrictive to be in all day long.   Thus, it would be advisable to slide out of these and into the most comfortable clothes you have immediately after getting home. Some of the office attires can be too restrictive, making you feel confined, increasing stress levels. Sliding out of these and into your ‘home’ attire eliminates the stress of giving your body room to breathe.  Most of the ‘not-so-fashionable’ clothes are quite comfortable and relaxing to be in. A good example of comfortable clothes you can change into, includes a jumper, track pants, or even an old-loose shirt. 

Engage in Enjoyable and Relaxing Activities

As much as you enjoy spending your day at work, it would help if you still learned to live your personal life. It would help if you learned to separate work and personal life. This means engaging in activities that aren’t in any way related to work when at home, and vice versa. One of the best ways to do this would be to take on a hobby, watch a movie, TV episode, listen to music, play your favorite music instrument, paint, or even prepare dinner for the family. Helping your spouse prepare dinner will help distract your mind from work-related stress and enable you to enjoy some good quality time with those you love.  Consider taking on that hobby you have always been dreaming of since your childhood. 

Engaging even in the simplest exercises, such as going for a swim, spending the weekend in your garden, taking a walk, and even preparing a meal, will go a long way in keeping your mind sharp and healthy. Some of these exercises help combat stress giving you a better chance of taking on the next day’s events with ease.
