Seven Interior Design-Focused Stores I Cannot Survive Without

November 20, 2025

When you want your home to be perfect, it pays to understand what you can get from each type of store in your area. You need a whole menu of shops you can go to to get what you want (and need).

So, what is out there?

Modern Furniture Studios

The first place to start is with modern furniture studios. These usually have carefully curated items with nothing generic or that would look out of place in a high-spec apartment

For example, if you are looking for something like a new ergonomic chair for your home office, or a coffee table for the lounge, then this would be the place to go. Something they have bespoke, specialist items that aren’t available anywhere else.

Minimalist Homeware Boutiques

For those looking for a more minimal approach, then minimalist homeowners boutiques are the place to be. These often have a lot of modernist furniture that keeps all the lines simple. Do not expect too many curves here or traditional design.

These stores often have unusual vases and ornaments you can add to sideboards and fireplaces. With them, you can often get something completely unique and tailored to you the look you want.

Blinds Store

I also like to have a blinds store near me for the sheer convenience. You can get blinds from generic homeware outlets, but the selection is never as much as you would like.

Blinds stores often have installers and advisors who can help you. Often, they will provide an end-to-end service to help you out. You will not usually need to install blinds yourself, unless you are feeling extra confident.

Lighting Galleries

If you have ever been to a dedicated lighting gallery, you will know that they can be a surreal place. With so many lights everywhere, it feels like a sort of wonderland.

Even so, lighting galleries are a good place to think about how you’re going to light your interiors, something that a lot of people think about too late.

Make sure your lighting is optimal for the space. Add recess and other types of lighting to make everything feel warmer and more welcoming. Try to avoid harsh lights.

Sustainable Design Shops

You could also dabble in sustainable design shops. These are fun if you are trying to create something eco-friendly and want to know for sure that you are on the right track.

These stores are more common than you might think. Look for outlets offering things like sustainable materials and items made by people on a living wage.

Textile Houses

Of course, if you are doing anything with carpets or curtains, you need a textile house. These have hundreds of options of fabrics and other options to choose from. Just make sure you get the choice of colours right. Pick a theme and stick with it.

Object Curios

Finally, if you want something a little unusual, you should find an eclectic store near you. These often have unusual items from multiple designers, all with something to offer that you just will not find anywhere else in your area.
