We are all looking to save a bit of extra cash, regardless of our financial situation. But tightening the purse strings does not have to mean making lots of sacrifices. It is possible to both save money with deals and enjoy yourself. In fact, not only is it possible, but it is also easier than you might think! If you are planning a trip abroad this year, but you do not want to break the bank, then consider these top tips. Here is how to travel in style on the cheap:
Stay For Free — Or At Least, Very Cheap
Accommodation is obviously one of the main expenses when you are on holiday. Thus, do not pay for it! How? By using a system called a hospitality exchange. This invaluable service hooks up travelers with local people offering free places to stay. It will not always be luxury, sure, but it will always be very cheap. Sometimes, it will not even cost you a penny! It is easy to see why hospitality exchanges are growing in popularity every year. Have a look at Couchsurfing to see what all the fuss is about.
Hire A Car
Hiring a car has to be one of the cheapest ways to get around in any country. Wherever your holiday destination, finding a cheap hire car is essential. It is also a fantastic way to ensure that you see more of the country! What is more, with a hired car you have your own personal space, unlike public transport. If you are wondering just how cheap this mode of travel can be, check this out.
Plan In Advance
This is a must for the traveler who is keen to save on the pennies. Planning your trip in advance saves you money on a number of fronts. First, is the distinct advantage that the earlier you book, the cheaper the travel. This is particularly true for air tickets and accommodation. Advance planning also helps to save a lot of headaches. Traveling on a whim can be fun, but it can also be stressful not knowing what is going to happen next. Plan everything in advance, and you are unlikely to come upon any surprise costs on your journey.
Travel In Low Season
If you can help it, it is a good idea to ensure you travel during the low season. After all, if you have no reason to wait until the school holidays, then why pay more? It makes little sense. Instead, consider booking holidays when it is not high summer. You will find you can save up to 30% on your traveling costs and you will enjoy yourself just as much!
Go Somewhere Cheap
This is all about personal choice. It might be that you are just dying to visit New York, in which case — go for it! However, what if you are keen on a holiday, but you do not mind where? If you want somewhere with a bit of sun and fun, then consider going to a less popular destination. This way you will be spending less and still having a great time. Remember: less popular does not necessarily mean less picturesque or less enjoyable.
So, whenever you find yourself planning your next holiday, remember your wallet. Paying more does not always mean you get more. And if you are looking to save some money, then do not go thinking you need to skip your summer holiday altogether! Just follow these tips and have a great holiday, without the expense.
Absolutely right! I’d add try to explore yourself instead of doing to many tours. Sometimes it’s a good idea to book a tour to get a deeper insight but I’d mainly explore on my own. Good for the budget and you can go at your own pace and do what really interests you.
Really helpful tips, thanks for sharing 🙂
