As regular readers of this blog will know, I love to travel and get things crossed off my bucket list. I am always planning our next adventures as a family, whether that is abroad or closer to home. When you travel a lot, you need to be pretty organized to make sure that things run smoothly. Even if you only travel a little, being organized for your trip is a must. Here are a few things that I do to make sure that I keep on top of things and get myself organized:
Write Packing Lists
You might think that this sounds a little tedious, but in the long run it will save you a lot of time and stress. As long as it is not a super last minute trip, be sure to write a list of all you need about at least a week before you go, two weeks is best. Then you have time to get everything into place, like you need to get foreign currency, then it gives you plenty of time to order it in. You can also start packing things into cases if they are things that you will need. Say for example it is winter where you are, however you are going for some winter sun in the Caribbean. You can pack away swimsuits and shorts, as you will not be needing them before you go. Not having a last minute packing panic is a big help, especially when traveling with children.
Order Things Online
As well as things like foreign currency that you can order online, think about other essentials. Doing a bulk order of all beauty or sunscreen products means I have everything that I need coming all at once. It helps so much when planning for a journey. If you wear contact lenses, make sure you have enough of a supply in. You do not want to get caught short when you are abroad. You can order them from stores online too, somewhere like Lens Direct. If you take a look at their website, you can check how long you should expect for delivery.
Keep Important Documents Safe
It goes without saying, but keeping things like your passports and visas safe is a must when you travel. It might even be worth keeping them in a waterproof container to keep them safe from disaster. Making a copy of your documents, including things like your travel insurance, will help you to be organized if the worst does happen. Have your originals with you of course, but it is a good idea to have a copy in your suitcase, carry-on, and another back at home. Best to be prepared to cut any stress in a bad situation.
Pack Plastic Bags
There is nothing worse than getting back from a trip and having to sort through your luggage to remember which clothes need washing. Packing plastic bags will mean you can put dirty clothes in the bags as and when they are dirty. Then you know they can be put straight in the laundry when you get home.
