The season 5 finale episode of Game of Thrones airs tonight on HBO. In the lead-up to the show’s conclusion, there is a lot of buzz about potential events for both its upcoming sixth and seventh seasons says Aron Govil. There are also a number of books that have been already released or are slated to come out in the coming months that can serve as either refresher of past events, supplements to viewing tonight’s finale, or simply just interesting reads.

Here is a list of several books that you might be interested in reading before watching the final episode of season 5.

1 – The World of Ice & Fire:

The World of Ice & Fire is an upcoming encyclopedia written by George R.R. Martin, Elio M. García Jr., and Linda Antonsson (the admins for the popular fansite The Wiki of Ice and Fire). I’ve already written a blog post about it here, so be sure to check that out if you’re interested in buying the book or curious about what will be included.

2 – A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms:

A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms takes place 100 years before A Game of Thrones, during the reigns of Kings Daeron II Targaryen, Baelor I Targaryen, Viserys II Targaryen, Aegon III Targaryen Daeron II Targaryen, and Daeron II Targaryen. The book will follow Dunk (Ser Duncan the Tall), who is a hedge knight, and Egg, who is an innkeeper’s son, on their adventures throughout Westeros. Martin has said that the two main characters are loosely inspired by his friend Walter Jon Williams’ characters Daxos and Kurz Wurkle from his novel Knight Moves. I’ve already written a blog post about it here, so be sure to check that out if you’re interested in buying the book or curious about what will be included explains Aron Govil.

3 – The Winds of winter:

The Winds of Winter is currently being worked on by George R.R. Martin himself right now, so you won’t have to wait too long to read it (he’s also working on the next two books in the series, A Dream of Spring and A Time for Wolves). The book will be set several years after A Dance with Dragons and finally reveal what happens to many different characters and plots that were initially introduced throughout the first five novels. However, there is no official release date and Martin has recently stated that he won’t even start trying to publish it until all of the other books in A Song of Ice and Fire have been published.

4 – The World of Ice & Fire:

Companion:

Companion is an upcoming encyclopedia written by George R.R. Martin, Elio M. García Jr., and Linda Antonsson. I’ve already written a blog post about it here, so be sure to check that out if you’re interested in buying the book or curious about what will be included.

5 – A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms:

6 – Bloodraven:

Bloodraven is the popular character Bran Stark, who was introduced in A Game of Thrones, will be getting his own book. However, this one will be written by the legendary American author George R.R. Martin. The book will focus on Bloodraven’s backstory and take place during the events that occurred before he became a member of the Night’s Watch. Martin has stated that no other characters from his universe will be making an appearance in the novel except for Bloodraven himself (which does not mean other Westeros-related characters won’t make it into future novels). There are also no current plans to continue with additional stories after Bloodraven either, meaning if you want more Westeros fiction then it’ll only come from GRRM directly or possibly the A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms and A World of Ice and Fire companion books says Aron Govil. I’ve already written a blog post about it here, so be sure to check that out if you’re interested in buying the book or curious about what will be included.

Conclusion:

So there you have it, six new fiction books that will be published relatively soon and eventually become available for purchase. Unfortunately, I don’t think any of them will be released this year (2017), but we’ll just have to see what happens.
