Fans of fantasy and science fiction will have a chance to meet one of North Carolina’s bestselling authors, J. Edwards Holt, at the Wake Forest Comic-Con on Saturday, August 19. Holt, who is known for his novels and children’s books, will be among the 35 vendors at the event, which will also feature comic book dealers, artists, food, drinks, and a costume contest.
Holt has published several works of fiction, including the Little Men, Big Treasures trilogy, the Barren world series, and the standalone The Storyteller’s Diary. He is also an ordained minister, a mental health advocate, and a contributor to Exceptional Needs Today, an online magazine for individuals and families with special needs. He has won several awards for his writing, such as the Mom’s Choice Award and the Readers’ Favorite Award.
Holt will be signing books and chatting with fans at his table, where he will also have some of his comic books, full-length novels, and even his new coloring book for sale.
The Wake Forest Comic-Con is organized by Play4Life Comics, a local comic book store, and Wake Forest Downtown Inc., a nonprofit organization that promotes the economic and cultural development of downtown Wake Forest. The event will take place at the Wake Forest Renaissance Centre, located at 405 S. Brooks Street, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is $5 for adults and teens, and free for children 12 and under.
The costume contest will be held at 3 p.m., with registration from 2 to 2:30 p.m. Contestants can compete in three categories: adult, child, and group. There will be three winners in each category, who will receive prizes from Play4Life Comics. The contest will be emceed and judged by R.J. Marchese, the owner and editor-in-chief of The Variant, an online forum for comic book enthusiasts.
