Reach for the stars with a vertical radiator

July 8, 2024

When you think of changing up your interior design most inspo articles will point you in the direction of soft furnishings, DIY work and if you are felling adventurous then perhaps a feature wall with a funky pattern or a stand out colour.

Not so in this article! Today, I’m all about combining form and function by using a vertical radiator to bring new life to old spaces.

Now, typical radiators don’t exactly scream excitement, and they definitely aren’t a quick DIY job either, but the effect they can have on a space cannot be underestimated.

Read on to find out why I’m touting vertical radiators over a gallery wall for your next interior makeover.

Space-saving and stunning

Radiators are essential parts of the home; we need them to keep things toasty, but traditional radiators can take up a lot of valuable wall space.

Free those walls with a radiator that goes up the wall instead of along it. With the vertical option, you can utilise every inch of space without sacrificing on the vital functions of a radiator. They are just as efficient as their horizontal counterparts, so you don’t need to worry about feeling the chill.

Now you have freed up some space, you have space to think about more traditional design options. Why not add some extra storage with shelves or even a cabinet to keep track of bits and pieces or display objects that are near and dear to you?

Heat those higher ceilings

If you are lucky enough to have tall ceilings in your home then a vertical radiator can be a touch more effective in keeping the air, and thus your entire space, a little bit warmer. Before you take the plunge on a new radiator check its BTU output and whether it is suitable for the room it’s going to be put into.

If your main reason for going up instead of along is to save space, consider opting for two smaller radiators placed strategically around the room rather than a single large radiator. You can get creative with your placement too. Traditionally, radiators were always placed under windows as these were the coldest parts of the home. Modern double glazing has done away with these cold spots, freeing you up to put your radiators wherever you need them.

Modern or classic? Pick your preference
Let’s dig into the design part now! Vertical radiators come in a whole plethora of styles. My personal favourites are the ones that mimic traditional cast iron radiators. Ornate carving on these vertical beauties gives me serious Alice in Wonderland vibes. However, they are by no means your only option. Check out sleek designer styles if you want something chic or the ideal fit for an industrial-looking space.

Colour is also a wonderland of design. Gone are the days of boring white and beige radiators. Keep an eye out for black, grey, chrome, anthracite and even custom-coloured radiators that can either blend in completely with your room or stand out and be the feature all by themselves.

Time to go shopping!
Personally, I found a great selection at Trade Raditors. They had loads of different styles and designs. They also have their own brand range, which is an ideal way to get more bang for your renovation bucks. Start shopping for inspiration now; I cant wait to see what you come up with.
