Sadly it was time to depart Easter Island and head back to the mainland. The only thing that could break the powerful spell that the Moai had placed on me was knowing that I had two girlfriends in Santiago awaiting my arrival with champagne. While wandering around the airport I was surprised to see a sign for free wifi. Free wifi in the most remote island in the world? Life never ceases to amaze me!
As I relaxed into my airplane seat, I decided that rather than watch a movie, I would reflect on the past three days. Easter Island was a place jammed with intriguing customs, welcoming residents, unforgettable meals, beguiling landscapes, and a history so rich and mysterious one could spend an entire lifetime trying to comprehend. In other words, all the things that make travel great!
The next twenty-four hours went by in a blink of an eye. One moment I was with two of my dearest friends, Kyle and Emily, and the next moment I was back at the airport getting ready to board yet another flight.
One of the best decisions I have ever made was this spontaneous trip to Chile. I have definitely fallen in love with the country and have no doubt I will be returning to experience more soon. Now it was time to get down to wedding planning business in Buenos Aires, Argentina!
Endnote: My trip would not have been as special as it was if I had not met Kyle and Emily. There are no words to express my gratitude to them for both their generosity and friendship. If you find yourself in Santiago, do not hesitate to reach out to them for advice or a possible meeting. I have no doubt they will touch your life as deeply as they touched mine.
There was free wifi in the airport in Kigali, Rwanda, and it BLEW. MY. MIND. We only got it in SFO, heart of the technology industry, a few months ago, and even then you only get 40 minutes of complimentary use! Ridiculous.
I REALLY want to meet Kyle and Emily, too. I mean, as if I needed another reason to plan a trip to Chile!
What a great story, being with friends on the road…!

Sounds like a wonderful time. Leaving is always so difficult, isn’t it?
“Parting is such sweet sorrow,
That I shall say good night till it be morrow.”
I also have friends in Santiago. Definitely, would like to meet Kyle and Emily.
All I have to say is, cooooomeeee baaaacccckkk!!!!
Sounds like you’re having a great time, I’m jealous! South America is still on my list of places to go.
Your website is absolute perfection!!!!
Thank you so much for sharing you story in Chile, Andi. I loved it, particularly your posts about Easter Island (which I’ve now put into my itinerary for my travels later this year).
I need to stop this French silliness and move to South America! Just kidding, but you look like you are having a lovely time! 🙂
Ditto Kyle. I am SO glad you came to visit – it was such a fun few days, and though you may be thankful for us making sure you were appropriately wined (champagned?) and dined, I am just as thankful that you made it all the way to our end of the world to come play. Living so far apart is slightly less sad knowing that we’ll always meet up somewhere or other in the future.
What an amazing adventure!
