While I am a beach person to the core, I have definitely fallen in love with rainforests over the years, especially after my solo-trip to the Amazon. Thus, when Kirsten and I were deciding which tour package to choose from through Yucatan Holidays, my immediate choice was the adventure tour. It included:
- Visiting an orchid nursery
- Zip-lining in the jungle
- Trekking through the jungle
Sadly, because of the time of year and due to some other unfortunate circumstances we were not able to participate in two other activities that are usually offered in this tour, which were:
- Kayaking in a floating forest
- Exploring a butterfly house
Early in the morning we were greeted by our tour guide and two young girls with the biggest smiles on their faces. During the long ride to the pueblo, Kirsten and I became acquainted with our new friends. Our tour guide, a Spaniard, happened to be a passionate believer in NGO’s (as am I) and worked tirelessly to see that Yucatan Holidays succeed. The girls were students in his wife’s high school class and they were on a field trip. I have never met more intelligent and ambitious girls in my life. Both had applied to Ivy League Universities throughout the United States and were eagerly awaiting their acceptance letters. The energy in the car from these three amazing people was extremely palpable and inspiring to say the least. Our first stop was the orchid nursery.
I have no doubt that visiting this place during the months the orchids are in full bloom would be a feast for the eyes, however as previously mentioned we were visiting during the wrong time of the year.
Although, there were some incredibly old trees throughout the property that would amaze anyone no matter what time of the year it was due to their grand size!
Then it was time for the next part of our adventure, which required us to ride in probably the coolest mode of transportation I have ever been in. Where we were going, we had no idea. . .
Seeing the photographs just brings it all back and I want to go ziplining AGAIN and do it better this time!!!!!!!! Awh, and I miss our Mexico girlfriends. Those girls were soo sweet and smart. Thanks for going with me to Mexico love, not sure it would have been 1/2 as fun w/ anyone else.
Awww, I should be thanking YOU!!! You made this happen! It was an interesting day to say the least, but I still had an awesome time. Those 2 girls will change the world, I know it!!! TQM
One of my favorite flower is orchid too! Sorry you couldn’t go to the butterfly house, I would want to check that out too
I’m STILL sad about missing the butterfly farm. That was #1 on my list! 🙁
Orchids are such spectacular flowers – they always look like they are alive. This sounds like such a fun trip! I remember how busy you were with it…no wonder! =)
Orchids are amongst my favorite flowers. You should see my home. It looks like an orchid sanctuary! We probably have over 20 in the house. It was SUCH a fun trip and it only got better as the day progressed.
That tree is huge! Looks like it was a great trip!
Sooooo enormous!!! I heart big trees 🙂
seriously how exciting!!!!
Agree!!!
Looks great, can’t wait for the write up on the rest of the trip. I prefer a rainforest over a beach any day.
Thanks!!! I can’t wait to share, BUT beaches are the best! 😉
Beautiful photos! The Kayaking in a floating forest sounds like a neat experience – too bad it wasn’t the right time of year, but it sounds like you had a great time anyway! 🙂
Yep definitely still had a fabulous time, some more really awesome adventures to come!!! Thanks for your sweet words regarding the photos.
Looks like fun. It certainly seems that the Yucatan has become the ziplining capital of the world.
I think Costa Rica will always be the capitol, but it was sooo much fun in the Yucatan!!!
great photos and post Andi 🙂 You’ll have to come back and I’ll go with you to find butterflies & orchids! 🙂
I’m going to make you keep that promise!!! I HAVE to see Mexican butterflies!!!!!!!!! Besos 🙂
Whoa – that’s a big ass tree! 😉
I know right!?!
I’m very interested in this floating forest. And ziplining in Honduras is still one of my favorite adventures. I tried ziplining a couple of times since than and through the canopy of the rainforest is the best way!
Agree 100%! The only other place I’ve zip lined that I’ve liked better was in Cuba!
Thanks, nice post!
You’re welcome! 🙂
Oh my gosh, I have NEVER seen anything like that giant tree. So cool!
Sooo cool right? There were tons of trees that big everywhere!
The tree which you are standing looks like a teak tree ? Your blog s cool
I’m not sure what kind of tree it was, but it was amazing! THANK YOU!!!
Wow, humungous tree! And, I have to say, even though you said it was the wrong time of year, I still really liked that picture. 🙂
I guess there is never a wrong time of year for Mexico haha?!? Thanks love!
Looove your writing & pics!
I’m very touched, thank you!
