Dominican Republic: Day 3 (Part 3)

July 26, 2011

Up until my dining experience at Lucia, the restaurant at Casa Colonial, I had been quite disappointed with the cuisine that I had tasted thus far in the Dominican Republic.  However, after my sensational four course meal at this Asian-Latin fusion restaurant, my perceptions were radically changed.

Besides the gourmet dishes being delectably unforgettable, the ambiance was superb.  You are guaranteed a view from any table in the restaurant, as one of the four walls is made out of glass, which looks out onto a mangrove jungle overflowing with exotic flora and fauna

At night, the candles come out in abundance casting the most romantic of glows.

My meals were a perfect example of how you can successfully combine Asian and Latin foods to create a flavor that tantalizes the senses and leaves you wanting more even after you feel like you cannot possibly eat one more bite.

But of course, I saved just enough room for the signature dessert.  It might not be unique or even considered a fusion-dish for that matter, though anything with chocolate in my book is a winner.  And so is Lucia!

What a beautiful restaurant (and beautiful food!) I love the Latin-Asian combo, which I usually see with Peruvian-fusion but this sounds even more awesome! I love caribbean flavours

It was the most amazing combination! I wish they had a sister restaurant near me, because I would eat there ALL of the time!!! Usually I love Caribbean food, so I was sad to be disappointed with the food in the DR.

I only eat seafood when traveling (absolutely no meat), as I’m a pretty hardcore vegetarian. But this lobster dish was so good that if I could I would eat it every day!!!

I’ve never been to the Dominican Republic before, but all of that food looks amazing! One of my best friends is Dominican, and she always makes the best dinners for us when we come over. What was your favorite dish?

Definitely not a foodie destination, but I’ve always had a particular fondness for Caribbean food, so I was definitely disappointed by how terrible the food was that I had encountered. I’m sure that I didn’t get to the best local restaurants — next trip!
