Almost every day I am asked interesting questions from all over the world and I thought I would start sharing my responses to them, along with travel related giveaways. I love questions, thus please feel free to ask me anything in the comments or send me a private message if you prefer.
Q16. Do you eat on a plane? If so, what?
A16. It depends if I am sitting in first class or not haha! Typically, I try my best to stay away from plane food. Since I am a vegetarian and request a special meal, it usually is very unappetizing. I always end up giving most of it to my husband, who will eat anything. Thus, I try to bring my own food with me every time I fly (chocolate and popcorn are my indulgences). I also drink a ton of water and stay away from alcohol.
Q17. Do you check in or carry on?
A17. Before the 3-1-1 rule I always stuck to carry on if it was a trip under a week. I only wear dresses, so packing for me is really easy and simple. However, I love my beauty products and find it impossible to fit them all into a quart sized bag. I would rather pay the check in baggage fee and patiently wait for my luggage to arrive after the flight, then go without my favorite moisturizer.
Q18. Where is your favorite theme park in the world?
A18. I actually have not been to a theme park in over a decade! I will always, however, have a soft spot for Disney World, especially It’s A Small World. These days I have become more of an aquarium person. One of my favorite places in the world is the Georgia Aquarium. As a Christmas present from my parents many years ago, I was given the chance to dive with the whale sharks and it was an experience I will never forget.
Q19. What is your favorite travel related movie?
A19. Wow, this is a tough question to answer, because I have many! I find a lot of my travel inspiration through movies. Some of my favorites include: The English Patient, Frida, The Talented Mr. Ripley, Before Sunset/Sunrise/Midnight, Monsoon Wedding, The Motorcycle Diaries, L’auberge Espangnole, Lost In Translation, Vicky Christina Barcelona, Y Tu Mama Tambien, Eat Pray Love, Amelie, Under The Tuscan Sun, The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel, Life Of Pi, Stealing Beauty, and Midnight In Paris.
Q20. What is your favorite mode of transportation?
A20. Train travel is incredibly romantic and peaceful, but I rarely get the opportunity to take the train. I prefer road trips to flying, simply because I love the freedom you have by being able to stop whenever your heart desires and to play your music as loud as you want and flying these days stresses me out.
For this giveaway I am offering the chance to win a brand-new personalized planner from Personal Planner. Mine just arrived a couple of days ago and I am completely smitten. Everything about the planner is customizable, so for people who love to plan this is a dream-come-true!
It’s so pretty! I love the reward note!!!
We’ll go with you if you ever want to go back to Orlando. Roller coasters are fun!! :))
I love that you only wear dresses – that has to make packing super-easy! I think I’m going to take a page out of your book and bring mostly dresses on my next trip.
Also, LOVE the GA Aquarium! I volunteer there and it’s pretty much my favorite place in the entire world. Next time you’re in Atlanta, let me know – volunteers can occasionally get people in for free 🙂 I haven’t dived there yet, but am hoping to join their dive team someday. I need to log nine more dives and many more volunteer hours before I’m eligible. They have challenging pre-requisites, because as you can imagine, many volunteers want in on that! The window you’re laying in is the best place to hang out in the aquarium, I think.
Thanks for sharing 🙂
Oh my goodness! I’m also in love with that planner! I roamed the streets of Vancouver yesterday for hours trying to find a 2014 planner before I head back to Roatan but nothing had what I wanted. Fingers crossed!
I would LOVE to know how you got to dive in the aquarium….that is so badass!
Airplane food…. yucky!!! I don´t know why they cook it that way… it´s just so not good. Though I must say that my last trip to Cuba, they serve a piece of baked bread that was delicious!! Too bad I wasn´t eating any sort of flour that time, so I only had a small bite!
That planner is sooooo cute! I love the pictures of you and Lucas that you chose!! I´m into photobooks these days. I would love to make one for every trip but the ones they have here are so not cute!!!
I wear dresses too!! They make me happy for I always feel pretty and sexy. 🙂 I liked your list of movies as well – it mirrors mine. 🙂
I wish someone would talk to the wifey on packing I swear she thinks we are moving. I guess Im like your husband Ill eat just about anything. I don’t think I have a favorite travel movie though.
I would love to win this. Fun!
So, if you could name one hotel. What is your favorite you’ve stayed in?
This would be great to win! I like to wear dresses too but packing workout gear, etc makes it hard to pack light! Where is your favorite place to dive?
I love so many of those movies that you mention!! And yes, if under a week I try to just use a carryon
I can’t drink water – or anything! – on a plane. I hate using airplane bathrooms because.. well, they’re gross, so I literally dehydrate myself for ages before boarding.
I don’t always eat on the plane but I always, ALWAYS, drink. 🙂
Your planner is absolutely adorable!
Question: What destination(s) would you suggest for first time female solo travelers?
That planner is a-dor-a-ble! I have one that’s A4 size with an entire page for each day – organization is my Achilles Heel!
Other than chewing gum, any other tips for preventing painful ear pops on a plane?
My favorite travel movies are very similar! As soon as I get my scuba certification diving with the whale sharks at the Georgia aquarium is on my list. Snorkeling with them in Mexico was incredible!
great answers and I hear you on plane food, good to take our own 🙂
That planner is adorbs. 🙂
What’s your favourite mode of transport?
Your planner is gorgeous! great photos xx
Andi, what is your favorite travel souvenir?
Love that you give your airplane food to your husband to eat. Sounds like me!
That planner is so cute! I need to catch up on your other q&a’s!
This aquarium is definitely worth seeing . I am a more aqua life person so it must be worth seeing place .
Woot , I am in love with this planner . So my question goes : What’s the craziest transportation you’ve ever ridden?
I LOVE aquariums… I will try to visit one if the city I’m in has a good one – like Lisbon! Took a special detour to see it when I was there 2 years ago.
Love that you chose Y Tu Mama Tambien… have you also seen Amorres Perros? Es muy duro pero increible… every time I watch it, it gets better!
I really like this series on your blog, Andi! :))) And Disney World holds a special place in my heart, too! 🙂
Which is your favorite wedding photo?
I love that you are a Chinese medicine doc and a travel photographer. Great combo of interests. I wish I lived near enough so you could be my doc!
I haven’t been to a theme park in ages and really don’t miss them – can’t stand lines! Love this planner!
Awesome photo of you at the aquarium! I’m dying to do that whale shark dive…
So many of those films are on my own list of faves! Definitely adding that whale shark dive to my list!
I am in love with that planner. My inner nerd and planning fairy keep telling me I need that right now. I went through the website to see how the process works…so many choices. How did you decide?
Just found your blog and love it! Spent some time reading and living vicariously through your adventures. Love the planner too!
Among those travel-related movies you mentioned, there’s only one I saw; Midnight in Paris, which is a really good movie by the way.. oh, and Life of Pi, two of them 🙂
That planner is pretty nice and sweet 😉
