Meet The New Chic Retreats Ambassador For 2014

January 3, 2014
To me, the magic of traveling begins the moment I walk into my intended hotel.  I am not like a lot of travelers who believe that one’s hotel experience is not of significance, since the majority of one’s journey will be spent exploring outside the hotel’s front doors.  While I do lose myself in the world of travel when I am abroad, I also care deeply about my accommodations and spend quite a bit of time researching the best choice/s for my trips.  Over the years, I have developed a strong passion for boutique hotels, especially ones that offer an incredible personal attention to detail and service.  This is why I could not be more excited to announce that I have been selected as the new Chic Retreats Ambassador for 2014!

Chic Retreats is a collection of the best boutique hotels, B&Bs, and luxury villas from around the world — all thoughtfully selected by the founder and Managing Director Lulu Townsend.  Personally selected for their style, charm, and personal service (Lulu is not interested in star ratings), you are guaranteed to be treated as an individual and not just a room number.  This is exactly the kind of brand that I want to represent.

For Christmas, I surprised my husband with a trip to NYC for Valentine’s Day weekend, thus the first Chic Retreats property that I will be staying in is the glamorous Soho House NYC.  This boutique hotel and private members club is located in the Meatpacking District and is built over 45,000 square feet of an old warehouse building.  It offers 30 spacious bedrooms; each bespoke-designed with large beds and walk-in rainforest showers.  We are counting the seconds until we can check in.

Wow, Andi, congrats. I had a quick look and checked out what was available in my beloved Madrid. Don’t think I can afford anything like that yet, but when I am making my own money, oh boy!
And I think it’s fair for some people to put zero emphasis on their accommodation… this comes down to extreme budget travellers for the most part, I would bet. I think I fit into that category at one stage of my life, but I am now evolving from there to someone who needs a cozy place to rest my feet at the end of a long day sightseeing, where I can shower without sharing a bathroom with 10 other people and all their gross hair clogging up the shower drain. Yeah, we’ve all been there.

Thanks a million! Yes, I totally understand what you’re saying. When I first started traveling, I stayed in some questionable places as well to save money, but actually in fact a lot of boutique hotels are rather inexpensive compared to the major hotel brands.

Congratulations, Andi! That place looks like a dream. I love boutique hotels as well. People thought I was nuts when I opted for one off the strip in Vegas once but to me, they make a stay so much more enjoyable. The beds are usually outrageously comfortable, not to mention the overall ambiance. I always love looking at them for decor ideas in my own home!

Congratulations, Andi! Boutique hotels are my favorite type of accommodations. I see that Birkenhead House in Hermanus, South Africa, is included in the Chic Retreats collection. Alan and I stayed there after a safari. It was the perfect place to relax after all of those early morning and late afternoon game drives. Birkenhead’s personal service is outstanding.

I’ve lived in NYC for almost 20 years and one of my dream is to stay for a night or two in the SoHo House hotel… like ‘hey, let’s have a “sleepover” in SoHo real quick for the weekend and get sitters for our dogs’ haha! Have fun Andi and congrats on being the new ambassador!
