Joaquín’s Five Month Update

June 11, 2015

A lot has changed since Joaquín’s three month update. I feel like my baby is such a big boy now! I have decided to embrace the fact that I cannot stop time and be 100% present when I am with him at all times. Those that know me, know that I am all about focusing on the future, so this has been an extraordinary lesson for me about cherishing each moment as they are happening.

Teething is my arch enemy. As previously mentioned, it started around three months, which means two months later and still no teeth! My perfect little angel morphed into my perfect little devil thanks to teething. As you can see in the following photos, Joaquín always, and I mean always, has to have something in his mouth to chew on, whether it is his hand, a toy, or one of our fingers (ouch!) to be content. I cannot wait to wake up one morning and finally see a tooth. He is a drooling mess, but I live for his slobbery kisses!

He still adores having his feet kissed, so when all else fails in calming him down from the teething pain I take his onesie or socks off and smother his little feet in kisses. If I dare to stop he refuses to put his feet down (yes, he got the stubbornness from me and not his Daddy). Speaking of feet, he discovered in the last week or so that he can grab his feet with his hands. Whenever he wakes up from a nap, he rolls over from his stomach and grabs his feet. I find him in this adorable position and we both just start laughing. He honestly has the most precious laugh I have ever heard; it makes my heart smile. Putting him down for naps can be challenging, although I cannot wait for him to wake up from them, because that is when my angel Joaquín is back (even if it is only for a short period of time until he remembers about the teething pain)!

Oh how he adores his stroller! He is so curious about the world around him and welcomes compliments from strangers, especially pretty girls. I try to take him on an adventure around town every day now. His nicknames at the moment are: monkey, gordo choncho (if only he knew what that meant in Spanish he would not smile every time his Daddy called him that), coconut, Mommy’s gorgeous prince, and dulce de leche. Daddy “plays” soccer with him every day, although the couple of times he has been swimming he has loved it, thus I am secretly hoping that he will follow in my swimming footsteps. Joaquín refuses to sit, he only wants to stand. I have a feeling he will be walking earlier than most babies, so we have to start baby proofing the house immediately. He loves yogurt and sweet potatoes and the more food he has on his face the happier he is.

He has lost the majority of the luscious hair that he was born with, but it is starting to come back and this time a lighter shade. His eyes are definitely going to be brown, just like his Daddy’s (for a while they looked as though they might end up blue). The two things he gets the most compliments about are his big, beautiful eyes and his stunning skin color. Like father, like son!

Every night my husband, Lucas, and I breath a huge sigh of relief when we have finally gotten him to sleep (the days seem very long right now), only to be mesmerized by him on the baby monitor five minutes later. We have to stop each other from sneaking into his nursery to kiss him just one more time. . .
