May 27, 2019

The islands off the coast of Thailand are ideal destinations for anyone looking for an idyllic tropical destination. Thailand is also a safe place to travel alone. Palm trees gently sway on white sandy beaches, which are bordered by clear turquoise water. Different islands are popular for their unique features or the activities they offer:

1. Koh Phi Phi

Koh Phi Phi located in Krabi Province, it is one of the best destinations for traveling in Thailand. The location naturally attracts energetic guests who enjoy a host of activities. The sheltered Maya Bay of Koh Phi Phi Leh was the location used to film “The Beach” starring Leonardo DiCaprio. The stunning beauty of the area includes the tall cliffs, which surround the island on three sides. Spend the day relaxing in the sun or exploring the beach. Enthusiastic guests enjoy everything from snorkeling and scuba diving to cliff-jumping. In the evening, embark on a shopping adventure or hang out at one of the beach bars. By night, locals entertain guests with traditional fire juggling and dancing. Do not forget to check the weather in Krabi before planning your trip.

2. Koh Chang

Koh Chang lies in the southeast region of Thailand. Though popular with families and singles, the location is not as congested as typical resort destinations. The White Sand Beach along the western coast remains popular, which makes it safe for single travelers. However, guests often prefer to venture to the small Sai Noi Beach for the festive Bohemian bar scene. The Salakkok Bay features a historic fishing village and provides the chance to go kayaking through mangrove forests. The village of Klong Prao is renowned for the traditional Kati restaurant, which serves homemade curry dishes.

3. Koh Lipe

The island is remote, which means it has a more tranquil atmosphere. However, accommodation options include luxury resort hotels. Koh Lipe is small enough to explore the entire area on foot. Pattaya Beach remains the most popular and offers exciting nightlife opportunities. Sunset Beach is more secluded and less busy. Accommodations here include beachfront bungalows or huts. The many activities enjoyed include scuba diving, snorkeling and swimming.

4. Koh Samui

Quaint beach bungalows and luxurious beachfront hotel resorts help make Koh Samui a popular destination. The island is known for its spas and yoga class opportunities. As Samui is the second largest island in Thailand, it also features a wide range of options to party in Koh Samui. Guests have the chance to visit historic temples and fishing villages. The resort areas feature a long list of bars, which provide the chance to attend legendary beer bars, discos and moon parties. If interested in staying in a more relaxed atmosphere, Lamai Beach should be on the top of the list. The location is smaller and less crowded than Chaweng. Nevertheless, guests find soft, sugary sand along dining and shopping options in addition to spas and tourist sites. Enjoy the view from Lamai Viewpoint. Activities to do in Koh Samui include visiting the Samui Aquarium. In the evening, grab a bite to eat at a Western restaurant and do some shopping at the Lamai Night Market.

Old Phuket Town provides the chance to stroll along historic streets lined with 100-year old shops and eateries. On Sundays, guests venture to Thalang Road for the expansive Walking Street market. The resorts along Patong Beach are some of the most frequented and offer everything from water sports and hundreds of restaurants to nightclubs and go-go bars. Kata Noi Beach is another hotspot, which consists of a small, cozy bay at the end of a cul-de-sac. The site is popular for relaxing and enjoying the view along with surfing. Other common coastal activities include sailing, sea kayaking, snorkeling, and wakeboarding.

6. Koh Yao Noi
