Five Quirky Accommodations Around The World

February 3, 2021

Why stay in the average, typical hotel when you can have an experience that is only possible in a place where you lay your head at night? Many travelers will focus on what to do away from their Airbnbs and hostels, but you can keep the good times rolling even in your suite. Let us look at some of the most quirky accommodations you can check-in to all around the world:

Powderhorn Chateau Mount Ruapehu: New Zealand

Combining all the facilities of a luxury hotel with an alpine lodge ambiance, the Powderhorn Chateau in Ohakune, New Zealand, gives you a unique experience because of how close the property is to Tongariro National Park. The combination of the buildings’ cultural and natural heritage gave the Powderhorn World Heritage status by UNESCO.

When walking into the room, you will feel a sense of coziness, thanks to the wooden walls and ceilings, stone walkways, and modest decor. Included in your room price, you will receive a business center, conference facilities, an on-sight bar, and free high-speed internet where you can listen to podcasts, contact your friends, or play live casino games in comfort.

The Lighthouse Airbnb: Norway

Up in the northern Norwegian town of ·Tranøy, Troms, Norway, you will get to experience what it is like to stay in a lighthouse all by yourself. Get back in touch with nature as you enjoy the beautiful and breathtaking landscape of Senja before drifting off to sleep. Here you can enjoy the Midnight Sun or the Northern Lights with a 360 degrees view from your bed.

Although lighthouses have the reputation of being cold, you will not have to worry about that here. Norwegian Wild, the company that rents out the Lighthouse, offers accommodation including free WiFi, bathrobe and sleeper, coffee and tea, a bathrobe and sleeper, as well as a star telescope. They’ll also provide experiences in the wilderness at Senja, Norway.

Book and Bed: Tokyo

Tokyo has some of the coolest places to stay on the planet, but the Book and Bed are for anyone who loves exciting locations and reading manga. Only a few steps away from Seibu Shinjuku Pepe Shopping Mall, you will gush at the site and amenities because it’s basically like you are staying overnight at a library. All guests can enjoy an American breakfast if desired.

Customers love the vibe of sleeping in a quiet location despite how busy and loud Shinjuku is throughout the day and night. Book and Bed is excellent for solo travelers because you will receive a twin bed within a bookshelf to stay. There are queen beds on location, but they are not in the same area and do not offer the same experience, but you can still browse the library.

Giraffe Manor: Kenya

Created by a company called The Safari Collection, the Giraffe Manors gimmick is the Rothchild’s giraffes that visit morning and evening and poke their heads through the windows in hopes you will feed them a treat. From hunting lodge to conservation property, you will have the chance to get up close and personal with the world’s tallest animals.

As this hotel is a part of the Safari Collection, you can experience the rest of what this company has to offer for a discounted price. Some of the things you can see in Kenya include a photographic safari adventure, fossil hunting, safari teasers, and the chance to go into the heart of Africa to see some incredible animals like gorillas, lions, and elephants.

The Manta Resort: Tanzania

While the rest of the Manta Resort is incredible within itself, the biggest draw for couples and newlyweds is the underwater room, which includes a completely submerged bedroom and an above-water living space on a private floating island. You can only get to this suite by speedboat. If you want to snorkel, you can just jump off the island and enjoy the sea life.

The underwater resort is the most expensive room on this list and starts at $1,700 a night, but the experience is more than worth it. Not only will you get a free breakfast, diving, spa, and beach location with the price of the room, but it is also one of the few ways you can see sea life pass by your room all hours of the day.
