What are the Unwritten Rules for Travelling by Private Jet?

May 26, 2023

Have you always dreamed of flying on a private jet? Private jet travel has always been associated with the rich and the famous, but it is becoming a more realistic and affordable option and something that everyone should experience at least once. This is the ultimate in luxury travel, so what are some unwritten rules about travelling by private jet so that you don’t stick out like a sore thumb?

Dress to Impress

First, you want to make sure that you dress to impress. While you may not need to wear a suit and tie, you should dress smartly  – you do not want to turn up in a pair of old sweatpants and an old t-shirt! You should consider where you are going when planning your outfit and dress accordingly.

Be Aware of Extra Charges

You do not want to find yourself in an awkward situation of not being prepared for any extra charges that you might face with the flight. A few examples of extra charges include cleaning fees, pet fees and extra luggage fees – this is why you should always read the small print and know what to expect.

Luggage

Speaking of luggage, you should check ahead of time what you are allowed to bring. Although you are not limited to one carry-on bag like you are with commercial flights, you do not want to be someone that takes up a huge amount of space with multiple suitcases.

Tip Staff

While tipping is not required with a private jet, it is a nice gesture that allows you to create a connection with the flight crew members. Keep in mind that you are getting the very best service with private jet travel and there is a huge amount of work involved, so a tip can go a long way and allows you to show your appreciation.

Don’t Get Drunk

An important unwritten rule with private jet travel is to not drink too much. You do not want to be someone who creates a scene and drinking too much would also ruin the experience. While you certainly should enjoy yourself, you need to know your limits and refrain from drinking too much.

Don’t Show Up Last Minute

One of the biggest perks of private jet travel is that you do not have to show up hours before your flight departs. Having said that, you do not want to keep the pilot and staff waiting, so it is a good idea to show up at least 20 minutes before departure. If you have a private jet membership you can book the time of your flight, but make sure that you are punctual.

These are a few unwritten rules of private jet travel that should help you to look like you are a regular.
