It was a midsummer night housewarming party where I was first introduced to the incredible game of cornhole. Something about the cheers and the camaraderie of this game really brings me joy. I have been playing now for over twenty years, and have even hit a couple competitions.
Do not do what I first did and get cheap cornhole boards. At first they were great, but after they got used for a bit they started to fall apart. If you know you want to have this game available for you to play, take the time and make or buy quality boards.
After playing cornhole for over a third of my life, here is where I have seen quality boards trump out cheaper ones.
1) Quality Cornhole Boards Will Not Get Ruined By Moisture
Now, you never want to leave your cornhole board out in weather like rain or snow. Even a quality board will eventually break down from the wear and tear of constant moisture. It is a sad day when you find your boards in disarray.
Good boards for cornholes will be sealed all around to prevent moisture from getting to the wood. Sometimes drinks can be spilled during game play or you can get caught in the start of some weather. When your board has a good seal all you need to do is clean and dry the boards when you get home and you are good to go.
2) Cheap Boards Have Cheap Materials
If you do not know if you like the game or not, then maybe a cheap set of boards is for you. But just know, you have a handful of good games before you might start noticing it starting to fall apart. Typically I have seen the legs go first. There was also a time I saw a bag get a tear because the top of the board had a splinter.
3) You Want Your Boards To Be Sized Right
Most superior boards for cornhole are sized to the exact specs that are used during professional matches. They are the exact length and width needed for pro gameplay. The hole is positioned correctly from the top and the sides and it has legs set up at the correct height.
4) Quality Boards For Cornhole Tend To Look Awesome
Of course if you make your boards yourself you can make them match your awesomeness to the tee! If you are not interested in making them yourself, do not worry. There are a ton of excellent cornhole boards out there.
I have seen boards where you can pick your paint or stain color. There are ones where a letter is burned into wood. I recently got a set with the letter of my family’s last name on it. They are absolutely stunning.
Buy Quality Or You Will Have To Buy Again
As you can now see, if you invest in well put together cornhole boards they can last years. When you get cheap boards the material tends to be thin and can be poorly made. You are lucky if you can make it through one warm season of play without your boards starting to fall apart. If you take care of a quality cornhole board you will get season after season of play.
