The Story Of Panda

January 13, 2026

Some stories arrive like a decision. Others arrive like destiny. Panda’s story began with a phone call; the kind of phone call you never forget, because your entire life shifts quietly after it.

My best friend Julie called me and told me something that felt almost unreal: two twin boy puppies were about to be born. Not just puppies — twin brothers.

Julie and I in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

And in that moment, it felt like the universe was winking at us, because Julie and I have always lived in this beautiful kind of parallel: best friends, soul sisters, both married to Argentines, raising 10 year old boys with hearts so alike.

Julie said something I will never forget: that our boys could be connected in a way that felt bigger than coincidence, that our sons could grow up with dogs that were brothers. Forever united. Forever linked. A thread of love tying our families together.

And just like that… the idea of Panda became more than a puppy. It became a promise.

🌙 October 23rd — The Day Panda Was Born

On October 23rd, Panda entered this world — tiny and perfect, as if he had already been chosen. Of course, I did not know him yet, not really, but somehow I already felt him. I believe some love reaches you before it arrives.

Like a soft whisper from the future saying: “Something beautiful is coming.”

🏡 December 18th — The Day He Came Home

By the time December 18th arrived, I was not just excited. I was emotional in a way I could not explain, as if my heart already knew what my mind had not fully understood yet: this was not a random chapter in my life. This was a turning point.

And then we met him.

The exact moment Joaquín met his “new brother.”

Meeting Panda was not like meeting an animal. It was like meeting a soul. The second I looked at him, I felt the strangest and most comforting thing: I felt like I had known him my entire life. Like he was not new. Like he was returning. Like he had lived in some invisible corner of my heart for years, and now finally he had a body, fur, warm breath, and a name.

🖤🤍 How He Got His Name

Of course, Joaquín named him — because some love is too pure to be chosen by adults and while I speak as though Panda is my dog, the truth is that he is Joaquín’s.

Joaquin looked at him, black and white like a tiny piece of moonlight and called him Panda. And it was perfect. Especially since Shih Tzus originate from China, and the name carried this sweet innocence and wisdom at once — like Joaquín was not just naming a puppy; he was welcoming him properly into our family.

Since Panda came home, something has shifted. He did not just join our household. He changed the emotional atmosphere of it. He arrived in a season when life felt heavy in ways I do not know how to describe. And without asking questions, without needing explanations, Panda gave us what humans sometimes cannot: comfort without conditions. The kind of love that does not require you to be okay first.

And Lucas? Oh Lucas… He tried his best to act calm about adding to our family at first, but the second he saw Panda in Joaquín’s arms, I saw it in his face — that softening, that quiet joy. Ever since that day, Panda has followed him with the kind of loyal love only a dog can give. I swear Lucas pretends he’s “not obsessed”, but we all know the truth: Panda owns him now.

Amigos for life.

And when I think about that phone call — Julie telling me the twin boys were about to be born — it still amazes me how divine it feels. Because now, somewhere out there, Panda has his brother, Diego, and our families are connected in the sweetest way.

And I know it sounds dramatic, but it is the truth: I thought I was getting a little Shih Tzu puppy. But what I really received was a miracle wrapped in black and white fur.

He was born October 23rd, but Panda was always meant for us. And somehow…he arrived right on time.
