Recently, while staying at the Wild Dunes Resort in Charleston, South Carolina we opted to skip the beach for the South Carolina Aquarium. The luxury resort has partnered up with the local aquarium for a new “Family Sea Turtle Package” that I highly recommend taking advantage of. It is available through September and starts at $249/night (based on occupancy). It includes:
- Two-night accommodations at the AAA Four-Diamond Rated Boardwalk Inn, Village at Wild Dunes, or select vacation homes and condos
- Two Tipsy Turtle drink vouchers at Beachside Burgers
- Four tickets to the South Carolina Aquarium
- $50 Uber gift card for aquarium transportation
- Sea Turtle welcome amenity bag and sticker, plush duney, and a $10 donation
Groups staying at the property can also take advantage of unique offerings at the aquarium ranging from after-hours cocktail receptions to private guided tours to hands-on animal encounters.
When you arrive and enter the aquarium you will immediately be struck by its unique beauty. Everyone we encountered was incredibly friendly and you could genuinely tell how happy they were to work there.
Of course, the main attraction are the sea turtles. All seven species of sea turtles are listed as threatened or endangered. This is why Wild Dunes Resort’s has partnered up with the South Carolina Aquarium. They are dedicated to eliminating that threat and to keep Charleston’s beaches “sea life safe.”
In addition to offering the package, Wild Dunes Resort is also going strawless in all of its restaurants and bars, providing “sea turtle safe” beach signage at the Grand Pavilion, and hosting “Green Team” beach sweeps.
We could have watched the sea turtles swim four hours, especially since they are my husband’s favorite animal and they are completely mesmerizing, however, there were more awesome exhibits to see!
Make sure you plan to spend at least half a day there, as there is so much to do and see. There is also a cafe to grab some food and drink and a store to purchase some keepsakes from your aquarium adventure.
