Celebrating New Year’s Eve In Barbados

April 25, 2019

If you know me personally, then you know that New Year’s Eve is my favorite day of the year. I have had the good fortune of celebrating the holiday in some pretty extraordinary cities all over the world, including destinations like New York City, Hong Kong, Buenos Aires, Madrid, London, and Rio de Janeiro. There is something so magical about starting off the brand new year with a champagne buzz, gorgeous fireworks, and being surrounded by family and friends. Having said that, since becoming a mom my last three New Year’s Eves have typically consisted of my husband and I falling asleep before midnight. In 2018, though, we decided to flip the script and go somewhere new and hopefully unforgettable: Barbados. And guess what? We nailed it! I let my husband take control for once and he truly planned the best New Year’s Ever I have ever celebrated.

Hilton Barbados Resort

Once we narrowed it down to Barbados, Lucas spent days looking for the perfect spot there to celebrate New Year’s Eve and eventually decided upon Hilton Barbados Resort. Even Joaquín was excited to see fireworks for the first time and to stay up way past his bedtime (spoiler alert: he fell asleep five minutes before midnight and missed everything).

Barbados

Hundreds of people at the Hilton Barbados Resort chose to welcome 2019 with a big bang as the luxury property staged its Old Year’s Eve event, “Spellbound Night Under the Stars”. The energy was high and everyone were in awe as the countdown got underway seconds before midnight, giving way to a stunning fireworks display right on the beach. Everyone whipped out their phones to record the spectacle as parents and children screamed in delight, some couples kissed, and friends hugged.

Before the highlight of the night, we were entertained by the soothing voice of Barbadian vocalist Marisa Lindsey and saxophonist Elan Trotman who delighted fans as he played several hits. On a side note, I sat in back of Elan on our flight to Barbados and he seemed like such a lovely guy! There was also huge buffets of delicious food from all over the world and open bars what seemed like every couple of feet. My drink of choice for the evening was pink rum punch. Even though there were a lot of people, the event still felt intimate. The fireworks lasted for almost half an hour and we had a front row seat to them.

If you are looking for the ultimate New Year’s Eve experience, then head to Barbados. You will be spoiled for choice with all the celebrations taking place. The one thing you will certainly need to get your head around is that they call it Old Year’s Night. And what a night it is, with traditional festive celebrations, spectacular themed dinners, and fun-filled beach parties. If you are considering somewhere special for your New Year’s Eve, I could not recommend a better place than Barbados and especially the Hilton Barbados Resort.
