4 Things to Consider When Choosing a Summer School

September 17, 2019

Summer school is a memorable and pleasant experience. It will be something different than being home all summer and it will actively fight summer break brain. But choosing the right program for you can be hard, as there are plenty of options out there, all offering pretty much the same thing. Cambridge Immerse Education program offers a diverse list of courses, each one with its own features. But there is more to summer education than a great list of courses: here are all the things you need to consider when you are looking for a summer program.

Location

Before you start looking for specific programs you need to decide where you want to go. There are famous universities which offer summer school programs all over the world. You have to decide how far away from home you want to be, then choose between national and international programs.

Second, in line, is the city and the university. Many teens choose to join summer school courses at universities they want to apply for college in the future. Being in a new place for summer can also be an interesting vacation, so you can choose a city you’ve never been to before.

Accommodation

Most students who decide to join summer school stay at the college, where the entire program takes place. This is a way to make new friends and get a taste of college life. Depending on what you want, you can choose to share the dorm with multiple people.

If you don’t want to live on the premises, you can rent a house or decide to travel back home, if the location you’ve chosen lets you do this. But this can raise the price of your summer school, so you need to see which is the best option for you.

The subjects

The subjects you will study are the most important, as they might be the entire reason you are enrolling in summer school. Cambridge and Oxford universities offer a wide range of interesting subjects, from medicine to tech and writing. Depending on your goal, you might want to study something you really like or you want to pursue in your academic life. Another popular reason teens take summer classes is to study something they’ve previously failed in and now they want to get a better understanding of the said subject, to be able to improve their grades when school starts.

Small things which go a long way

Apart from these four things, teens often choose their summer program based on where their friends are going or quite the contrary. If you want to make new friends and learn something new, you will choose a program where none of your classmates are going. Online reviews and recommendations from friends also count in the decision, as a highly rated summer school program is most likely to be a great one. Summer school programs often include trips to local attractions, so you might want to consider this as well when you pick the program that is right for you.
