In the center of the state of Columbia, South Carolina, you will find more things to do than the time you have on your hands. The best part is, there is something here for everyone. If you are on a family trip with kids, there are activities like camping, bowling, waterparks, and baseball games for everyone to enjoy. 

If you are on a romantic getaway, there are a variety of options such as boat trips, museums, and shopping centers which will help set the mood. No matter for which reason you visit, you will find this city to be a beautiful and comfortable place. To better understand all your options, some things to do in Columbia South Carolina are listed below.

Attractions

Throughout the area, there are many sites and scenes worth a visit. The Columbia Museum of Art is present here which boasts of a well-known and international collection. Maybe the outdoors is more your speed. If so, there are many options, including the Congaree National Park, Dreher Island State Park, or Saluda Shoals Park. 

If you have your family with you, you need an outdoor activity which is a little more engaging. Columbia offers this in the form of the Riverbanks Zoo. For even more family activities, you can try Frankie’s Fun Park, EdVenture Children’s Museum, or the Challenger Learning Center. The Icehouse Amphitheater also hosts events for viewers of all ages. 

Sports

This city has a vibrant sports culture with many options for every sports fan. The biggest arena in the state is the Colonial Life Arena, which is where the South Carolina Gamecocks basketball teams host their games. 

Columbia Fireflies is a minor league baseball team for the New York Mets, and it plays at Segra Park. If you are the type of person to get involved with sporting activities, bowling is available at multiple establishments. The same can be said about golf as the area boasts about twenty unique golf courses. Tennis courts can be found all over the city as well.

Water-Based Activities

With Lake Murray in the area, there are many water-based things to do in Columbia, South Carolina. Many businesses exist solely for patrons like you to rent and drive boats on the lake. Similarly, you can easily find a boat tour which will be more relaxing. 

If you are not a fan of engines, you can also rent canoes or paddle boards for use on the lake. Of course, there are multiple activities for the younger or more active-minded crowd with the Drew Park Splash Pad or the Fort Jackson Waterpark. 

Shopping

No matter what the reason for your stay is, all your shopping needs and desires will be met. If you are looking for the quintessential vacation shopping experience, gift shops and antique stores can be found all over, especially downtown.

If you enjoy fresh fruits and vegetables, you can easily find them at the Sandhill Farmers Market or Ridge Spring Farmer’s Market, among many others. Of course, there are multiple malls in the area, so your more modern shopping thirst will be quenched. You can also buy a boat at many locations.
