5 Benefits of a Wooden Garden Parasol and Why You Need One

February 20, 2021

Keep your guests and your furniture well and truly protected from those hot afternoons with wooden garden parasols. These parasols are the perfect complement to your outdoor furniture. You don’t have to rush in anymore once the sun gets too hot, not when you’ve got this beauty in your garden, providing you with ample shade while you continue lounging in the outdoors. A garden parasol allows you to enjoy the outdoors for a much longer period.

Did you know that if you have teak furniture as your outdoor furniture, a wooden parasol is the perfect finishing touch? Stylish yet practical at the same time, a wooden parasol is like the icing on the cake to your beautiful outdoor setting. Sunny days can sometimes come by unexpectedly, depending on where you live, and a parasol is a perfect accessory to whip out when an unpredicted sunny day catches you by surprise. Why waste all that sunshine cooped up indoors when you could be outside soaking up all that warmth?

A garden parasol is going to become your best friend quickly. Bring it out on a hot day, or even when the weather takes an unexpected turn in the other direction. With a parasol on your patio, the weather is never going to catch you off-guard again while you’re outside, not when you have all the cover and shade that you need.

The Type of Wooden Parasol You Need

You want a parasol that’s strong and durable since you don’t want it to blow away when a strong gust of wind hits. That’s why parasols that are of the wood variety make the best option for an outdoor garden. These wooden parasols come in all sorts of sizes, and the wood variety is constructed of sturdy hardwood. There are going to be a lot of parasol varieties you’ll come across in your search for the perfect garden parasol, but wood is still going to be the strongest, most durable, and practical option.

5 Benefits of Having a Parasol in Your Garden

When selecting your garden parasol, the following considerations will help you reach the best decision about the type of parasol you should get:

  • The large shape and size – This is one of the easiest considerations because all you’d need to do is look at the size of your outdoor furniture setup to get the answer. If you have a small outdoor space, for example, then a small or medium-sized parasol might be enough to get the job done. If you have a bigger space, then a large parasol is what you’re after. You still want to grab your tape measure and get an accurate measurement of your space to know precisely what you need. Avoid guessing how big your space is. Measurements are the safest way to ensure you don’t go wrong with your purchase.

  • There’s a style for everyone – Would you prefer a parasol in the center post or off to the side? The side post parasol type is called a cantilever, and your preferred style is going to depend on the outdoor space you’re working with, too. Cantilevers are sometimes useful because they offer a 360-degree rotation option, and this means you can easily adjust your parasol to follow the rays of the sun as it shifts throughout the day. Center post parasols are pretty standard and don’t offer as much flexibility in terms of movement, but you’ll have the option of choosing from a wide selection of sizes. If your outdoor furniture already comes with a hole at the center of the table, your center post parasol will do the trick.

  • It offers UV protection – You’ll want to choose a parasol that’s going to offer you as much shade as possible and protection from the sun’s harsh UV rays, too. UV can be extremely damaging to the skin if you’re exposed to it for too long, and luckily, the parasols today are designed with UV protection in mind. Aim for a parasol that’s going to offer at least 95% coverage from the UV. It seems like a lot, but given the harmful nature of UV rays and prolonged, unprotected exposure to the sun, it’s still better to be safe than sorry.

  • It’s sturdy and strong – Like your outdoor furniture, your garden parasol needs to be sturdy and strong. It has to be able to withstand the wind, rain, and any other crazy or unpredictable weather conditions that might suddenly turn up. If you live in an area that’s particularly windy all the time (and with strong winds at that), consider wooden parasols that are made of hardwood because the heavier they are, the less likely they will be to blow away the next time a strong gust of wind hits it. You might want to think about bolting your umbrellas to the ground, too, as an added measure.

  • It comes in handy at night, too – Did you know that your garden parasol is going to give you a great excuse to enjoy the outdoors at night, too? Well, you can if you attach some lights under your parasol. This simple added feature will transform your entire outdoor setting and make it come alive at night. You get the best of both worlds this way; why should your outdoor space be limited to only daytime use? Make the transition from relaxing daytime chilling to a nighttime barbecue with family and friends easily when you add some lights beneath your garden parasols. The battery-operated lights are easy enough to install. All you need to do is clip it to the frame of your umbrella, and you’re ready to go once the sun sets for the day. Did you know that some varieties even come with the option of Bluetooth speakers? Lights, music, wine, good food, and good company. What more could you ask for?
