Wedding Ring Finger : Left or Right Hand?

June 1, 2021

A traditional wedding ring is worn on the 4th finger on the left hand, but from the right. This tradition is followed in the United Kingdom and the United States. One can always wear it on the ring finger of the right hand as well. The finger where the wedding ring is worn is called the ring finger, as it is especially linked to the heart, people say. And marriages are definitely done with the consent of the heart, very kind of always!

There will always be a confusion for people but at the end of the day one should do as they please. If you think you use your right hand more and need a ring on the other hand, then be it, and vice versa. As far as you are content with your ring finger, that one should be it.

Which other countries follow the tradition of UK and USA?

The list includes the following countries which do not believe in letting go of their traditions:

Norway is very much enthusiastic about wearing the wedding ring on the left hand.

Austria is very much enthusiastic about wearing the wedding ring on the left hand.

Denmark is very much enthusiastic about wearing the wedding ring on the left hand.

Poland is very much enthusiastic about wearing the wedding ring on the left hand.

Belgium (some areas) is very much enthusiastic about wearing the wedding ring on the left hand.

Germany is very much enthusiastic about wearing the wedding ring on the left hand.

Russia is very much enthusiastic about wearing the wedding ring on the left hand.

Latvia is very much enthusiastic about wearing the wedding ring on the left hand.

Greece is very much enthusiastic about wearing the wedding ring on the left hand.

What are the Orthodox views on the ring finger?

Orthodox Christians used to believe that the left hand is not as sacred because it is not as clean and therefore wearing a ring on that hand could mean the relationship does not remain as clean and it is not a better choice.

However, each culture has their own beliefs and some people do not even believe in wearing a ring at all. That is also a choice that people can make and should be okay with it, because at the end of the day to each their own!

Does the left hand really have a vein going to the heart?

Unfortunately, even though it was supposed to be a sure shot reason to wear the ring on the left hand, one would feel sad to know that it was in fact not true and now research shows that every finger on each hand has veins going to heart. The middle finger is believed to be representing heart, the ring finger is said to be representing hormones and so on so forth.

Is it different for men and women?

Actually no, it is not any different for men and women both, it is pretty much the same. Men and women can both decide what they personally prefer and that is something on them. Men usually prefer to wear a simpler ring and women want a fancier one. It can be the other way around too!

What are the benefits of wearing on the left hand?

The majority of people use the right hand as their main hand and this clearly means that they do not use the left one for major things. This improves the chances of the ring being maintained for longer, if it is worn on the lesser used hand. From your right hand you may eat, may pick up heavy stuff, may use creams on face from the right hand etc. So this really proves it to be a good thing.

There is also surely a trend too that if someone wants to check your relationship status they will surely look at your hands first. This will provide them with a better insight into your life and you will be much happier this way too to ensure that unwanted people can tell from far that you are taken!

However, this does not mean that you cannot wear random rings on your ring finger! Why not? Trends are trends! And they should be taken as such. There is no hard and fast rules regarding such trends and traditions.

So which hand do you prefer your ring on? We suppose you have made your choice or are about to, we would say listen to your heart as matters of the heart do not leave logic for sure! Good luck.
