Recycling is an amazing eco-friendly way to turn some old waste items into something new and useful. According to recent reports, the earth generates more than a hundred tons of waste per day. Out of that, 75% of waste is recyclable and reusable.

However, people do not know which wastes are recyclable and how can they recycle them properly.

More than 50% of household items that end up in landfills every day are recyclable and can be reused over and over again in different ways.

Recycling these items minimizes the generation of waste and helps to create a healthy pollution-free environment. Also, recycling old items reduce the need for a new substitute and save your money.

In this article, we have shortlisted some household items that you should recycle and reuse to decrease waste production. So, if you are looking for household items to recycle, keep reading the article.

Household items to recycle

6 household items that you should recycle are written below;

  • Books
  • Old clothes
  • Plastic bottles
  • Plastic bags
  • Old electronics
  • Newspaper and old envelope

Books

Books (like dictionaries, biographies, novels, and textbooks) are a major part of every household. Fortunately, these books are recyclable. You can recycle their pages in the paper recycling bin. However, this task is a bit time taking because books have rigid covers which can’t be recycled. So, first, you have to remove that cover and then recycle the pages of your book.

Instead of recycling, you can give the old books to your friend who is fond of reading. Also, you can donate your old books to any library or bookstore near your house.

Nowadays, many bookshops and libraries offer exchange services in which you can get rid of your old books by swapping them with new interesting ones.

Old clothes

You will be surprised to learn that your old clothes are 100% recyclable. If you have some old clothes that you don’t want to wear again, you can recycle them to make something usable. For recycling, you can take the services of any clothing company or you can do it yourself.

For instance, you can cut clothes to make some rugs, shoe matts, dust towels, etc. You can make pillow and cushion covers with some embroidery on them.

Besides that, you can use your old clothes like old shirts to make some hand warmers and neck chokers.

However, if you don’t want to recycle these clothes, we have a solution for that too. Donate the old clothing to someone in need or any NGO.

Plastic bottles

Plastic waste has become the biggest concern for the entire world. By recycling these plastic wastes, you can reduce their generation.

If you buy fizzy drinks every day, you can toss their empty plastic bottle in the plastic recycling bin to avoid waste production.

Apart from that, you can use plastic bottles for filling water on hot days. You can use these bottles for making some crafts. Also, if you love gardening, you can cut these bottles to make some planters for hanging on your garden entrance.

Plastic bags

Plastic bags are another household waste that you should recycle. Search for any plastic recycle bin near your house and toss the plastic bags in it to get rid of them in an eco-friendly way. You can also send these plastic bags to the local recycling unit.

Besides recycling, you can use these bags for various purposes. You cut the plastic bags to make liners for trash bins or you can use them to store food leftovers and for grocery shopping.

Old electronics

Old electronics like toasters, laptops, computers and coffer makers are recyclable. Many local recycling units only deal with old electronic waste. So, you can send your old electronics there for recycling instead of throwing them in the trash cans to pollute the environment by releasing harmful chemicals and radiation.

Newspaper and envelopes

Newspapers and envelopes are a big part of household waste. You should recycle these wastes because by recycling them, you can minimize overall paper waste generation.

Moreover, you can reuse the newspaper and envelopes in different ways. You can paste the old envelopes or newspaper pieces into your scrapbook. You can wrap gifts in newspapers to give them an exciting look. Also, you can use newspapers for wrapping up old antiques.

Conclusion

Every household generates a considerable amount of waste every day. Out of that waste, many items are recyclable.

The most common household wastes that you should recycle are books, newspapers, envelopes, old electronics, clothes, etc. By recycling these household wastes, you can prevent waste production and protect your environment.
