Creating A Relaxing Home Base

March 27, 2023

Most people have a great desire and passion for travel. Through travel, you are introduced to new cultures and experiences, making you feel enriched and open to the world. Some people even go so far as to do entire month-long backpacking tours across foreign countries. While this life of rambling can be exciting and rewarding, it can also be exhausting going from place to place without having a guaranteed place to return to. If this sounds like the life you have been living, then it might be time to consider purchasing your own home and unwinding from the wild life you have been living–or, continuing to live it, but gaining the comfort and reassurance that comes with the added security of a home base.

Affording Your Home

If you have been traveling a lot and have had inconsistent employment history, then it might be difficult to be approved for some loans. This is why it is important that you do your research to find the right loan and lender for you. Most likely, a conventional home loan will not be right for you, since they typically require a sturdy financial history–consistent employment, and a high credit score. Thankfully, there are other loan types that are much more flexible and much easier for first-time home buyers to get approval for.

Finding The Right Home to Fit Your Needs

Once you know what kind of budget you are working with, it is time to start searching for the perfect home. When looking at listings, it is important to consider what kind of lifestyle you hope to have for the foreseeable future. Do you plan to continue traveling, or is it time for you to finally settle down? If you do still want to live a life on the road, then you might want to consider using whatever property you purchase as an Airbnb. This way, when you are gone for long periods of time, you could rent your home out and be making money to pay for your trips. If this sounds like the option you would be most likely to pursue, then you will not need a large home, maybe just one that os modern and move-in ready. Another thing you can do if you are not ready to give up traveling is you could use your loan to purchase an RV, that way you can bring your home with you wherever you go.

If you are ready to stay in one place for a while, then there are a few factors you will need to consider before purchasing. The first thing you need to ask yourself is what condition you want the property to be in. Are you looking for something fully updated that you can move into right away, or are you alright with taking on projects, if so, how much time and effort are you willing to dedicate to remodeling your home? You should also consider how many people you want your home to be able to accommodate. Do you plan on living there alone, or do you hope to someday have a family? If the latter is your goal, then there are plenty of other factors to consider other than the size of the home. You also want to make sure you find a house in a good school district, and maybe even look for a nice, quiet neighborhood filled with other families. If you are not planning on settling down to that extent, then ask yourself what location would be best for you. Do you still want to live in a quiet neighborhood on the edge of town, or would you prefer to be closer to the center of town and all of the restaurants, shopping, and other businesses it has to offer?

Design Time

Once you find the perfect home, it is time to put your mark on it. If you do decide to use it as a rental property while you’re away, then it might be best to keep the furniture and decor relatively simple so that guests do not feel overwhelmed walking into your home This does not mean do not decorate your space at all. It os important to find a balance within your home so that the decor promotes a relaxing environment for you and your guests.

If you have decided to live full-time in your home, then you should feel free to decorate it however you want. Ultimately, you will feel content in your home if it is a reflection of you. That is why you should fill it with things you love–maybe mementos from your travels or art that you’ve created. There is no one way to create a relaxing space since each individual finds comfort in different things, so you should go with your gut when deciding what to fill your home with.
