Putting a soft phone in your home can make it feel much cosier. However, the way you do this matters a great deal.
If you are thinking about adding cushions, throws, curtains, and everything else to your living room, then this guide is here to help you. We look at some of the ways to do this properly so you do not wind up feeling disappointed.
Start With Your Theme
Before you get going, you will want to decide on your theme for your living and your soft furnishings. Many designers like to pick between 3 and 5 colours that they base the entire room around. They use the main colour 6% of the time, the secondary colour 30% of the time, and then the other colours below 10% of the time combined. You might want to have accent cushions in your home which are a different color from the walls and ceiling.
Layer Textures Like A Designer
Next, you will want to think about how to layer your textures and soft furnishings so that it looks more like a designer did it. You will notice that in many of the top interior design magazines, they often combine things like velvet and linen with faux fur, cotton and boucle.
If you want to add something like a cowhide rug, go for it! Just make sure the rest of the room is not too busy, because the natural markings on this material should be the focal point.
Master The Cushion Formula
After that, you will want to think about how you arrange your cushions. Doing this well requires understanding the relationship between quantity and size. Most designers go for between three and five on a sofa, placing the largest at the back and the smallest at the front. Some of these can be decorative, but that may also reduce the practicality and functionality of the room. If you can add some lumbar or round middle cushions, those can be genuinely helpful for people.
Get Your Rug Size Right
To master your soft furnishings in your living room, you will also need to get your rug size right. Many people get this wrong by adding rugs that are too small for their rooms, which makes everything feel disjointed.
You really want your rugs to be significantly larger than the extent of the furniture in your living room, if you have the space. The rug should extend out from behind sofas and go fully underneath coffee tables, all the way up to your hearth, if you have one.
Hang Curtains High And Wide
Similar principle for your curtains and window dressings. If you have drapes, make sure you hang them high and wide, ensuring they extend at least 6 to 8 inches from either side of the window frame. If you can make your drapes floor-length, then that helps as well, although this can be impractical if you have children or pets.
All that is left to do is add a few throws to your sofas or armchairs, and you are done.
