There are restaurants you try once…and then there are restaurants that become part of your life. For Lucas and me, that place is Calle Sol. During our visit to Calle Sol in Plaza Midwood, Charlotte, we had the chance to try several dishes and cocktails that perfectly capture the restaurant’s vibrant Caribbean spirit and we have been hooked ever since!
It is not just somewhere we eat — it is where we celebrate. Birthdays. Special milestones. Random “we survived the week” wins. Quiet date nights. Big moments. Little moments. All of it. Calle Sol feels like our place in Charlotte.
It is warm and vibrant, full of flavor, color, and that cozy buzz of people enjoying life. The kind of restaurant where you are always happy you came — and where even an ordinary day can feel like a celebration just because you are there.
Why We Love Calle Sol
Calle Sol has this magical way of doing both:
✨ making you feel like you are on vacation
✨ and making you feel completely at home
The atmosphere is lively, but not chaotic, romantic without trying too hard, and the menu? Always delicious!
The flavors lean coastal and Latin-inspired — bright citrus, fresh herbs, rich sauces, and perfectly seasoned seafood. It is the kind of food that makes you pause after the first bite like… “Wait, this is sooo good.”
What We Eat And Are Alway Thinking About
🍳 Salchipapa
I do not even know where to begin with the Salchipapa?
Golden Peruvian fries, perfectly fried eggs (the kind with yolks you want to poke immediately), crispy hot dog, aji amarillo mayo, cilantro aioli, and ketchup drizzled over everything, and a shower of green onions and herbs.
It is comfort food but elevated — rich, satisfying, and FUN.
It is the kind of dish that makes you feel happy while eating it. Like the meal itself is celebrating with you.
🍤 Shrimp Mojo
The main dish we always order to share is a showstopper — plump sautéed Argentinean red shrimp in a gorgeous, flavorful white wine and butter sauce with cherry tomatoes and fresh herbs, served with a beautiful mound of white rice and a wedge of lime.
The Shrimp Mojo is fresh, light, savory, and citrusy all at once — the type of dish that tastes like sunshine.
And let us talk about presentation for a second: it looks like art. Elegant, colorful, and just… inviting.
One thing Calle Sol does so well is balance — nothing feels too heavy, too salty, or too much. It is just right.
🍨The Guava Maria Dessert
Another standout on the menu is the Guava Maria, a dessert that perfectly blends classic Cuban flavors with a playful presentation. This sweet treat features cream cheese ice cream topped with guava sauce and Maria cookies, creating a delicious balance of creamy, fruity, and slightly crunchy textures.
The guava adds a bright tropical sweetness, while the Maria cookies bring a nostalgic Cuban touch that makes the dessert feel both comforting and indulgent. It is the perfect way to end a meal at Calle Sol and a must-try for anyone who loves guava-inspired desserts.
Our Favorite Way To Celebrate
Some couples have traditions like:
- going to the same beach every summer
- rewatching the same movie every anniversary
- buying ornaments each Christmas
For us, we have Calle Sol. It is our celebration spot. And I love that we have a place like that — somewhere that holds memories. Somewhere that feels like “us.” Somewhere that feels like Charlotte has wrapped us in its arms and said: Welcome. You belong here.
Why You Should Go (Especially If You Are Visiting Charlotte)
If you live in Charlotte, put it on your list. If you are visiting, go hungry — and go ready to fall in love with the flavors. Because Calle Sol is more than a restaurant. It is an experience. It is that place that reminds you that life is meant to be enjoyed: with good food, good company, and a little extra lime on the side.
Final Thoughts
Here is everything I love about Calle Sol:
- beautiful plates
- big flavor
- fresh ingredients
- warm energy
- and the feeling that life is worth celebrating
Even the small things. Especially the small things. Because those become the moments you remember. And for Lucas and me… Calle Sol will always be one of those places.
