Dreaming About Corfu: Simple Family Luxuries

May 11, 2016

Early summer is upon us and it is usually the time when the holiday memory chest opens and prior memories of holiday bliss creep into your restless mind, paving the way for cravings of the next vacation. Travel desires and travel priorities should co-align in order to minimise being disappointed and once you find that place that will promise your vacation paradise, you should be free to daydream about it!

Corfu

This is the case when I came across Capo di Corfu resort on the island of Corfu. If you check my most recent post about Greek islands and family holidays, I have named Corfu as one of the gorgeous destinations for a family holiday, as it combines all the ingredients for a memorable family getaway. Here are some reasons how family holidays can become simple family luxuries:

Why Corfu?

Culture: Corfu is located in the Ionian Sea, with characteristically striking azure hued waters, reminiscent of tropical destinations right in the heart of Europe, with magnificent beaches all around the coast. The old town is a mosaic of differing cultures as it has a very rich history in terms of imperialism, with a strong artistic influence and numerous archaeological and historical sites of interest.

Natural Beauty: The more remote locations boast a number of alluring beaches, specifically, the south east region of Lefkimi, where the golden beach of Agios Petros is located. Lefkimi is quite a traditional area, so you will also get to see the more local side of Corfu, while also enjoying the simple luxuries of a beach resort.

Family Moments

Island Hopping: Corfu provides for numerous family moments, as there are activities that will bond families together even more. Being in the Ionian, the islands of Paxos, Antipaxos, and islet Vidos are not far away! Paxoi are a unique place that can only be experienced via boat, so this is a must-see. Vidos islet is rich in fauna and flora, and children will be thrilled with the resident animals (rabbits, hares, peacocks, and grouses) that will accompany you while you explore its wonderland! Do not miss this, as it is a particularly amazing day-trip for the younger children.

These can easily be reached from Corfu by a rented boat, so the skipper takes care of the journey while your family focus on the beautiful Greek scenery that passes you by. However, if you do not want to travel to another island on boat, the pristine beaches of close-by coves and bays will not disappoint you, with tavernas and cafes waiting at their shores.

Activities: Resorts will have a many outdoor activities within their grounds, so you need not search high and low to find some kind of activity either children or parents (or both) can enjoy. Why not try some watersport action, which is quite popular and fun? If you are not an adrenaline junkie, you can opt for a water paddle boat ride. Fancy a venture outside of your resort? Corfu has a lot going on. Kids will enjoy the Aqualand water park, tours with a glass bottom boat, and horse riding among others.

Discrete Privacy

Child Care: Traveling with a family can be a challenge as the bet is to juggle the needs of children together with adults requirements. As Corfu is increasingly becoming a family destination most family-oriented resorts will provide some kind of child care provision. This is a service that families should not shun, as lack of it can seriously compromise your holiday experience.

Quality Time: Not having enough time or space for adults to enjoy some leisure of their own while on vacation, is a detrimental fail and could potentially defeat the point of your holiday. No one wants to return from a family holiday feeling drained and wanting; well-appointed, spacious family suites with separate bedrooms allow for the much needed privacy parents will gladly welcome and appreciate.

Since holidays are about building experiences, you will tend to mentally cling to how a place made you feel, how it affected your senses, what memories it triggered, and what details perhaps hindered your stay. Hopefully, there will be many more instances of the former, rather than the latter, but in any case, if your priorities for a family holiday are beautiful visuals, luxury comfort levels, privacy, and amenities oriented for family frolics then look no further than Greece’s Corfu: the Mediterranean contender for simple family luxuries!
