Banner Elk, North Carolina: Autumn

September 19, 2013

Autumn is currently enveloping my beloved state of North Carolina.  Mornings are met with a frost lingering heavily in the air.  Sunrises and sunsets light the sky ablaze and smolder into a purple flame along the horizon.  Soon trees will be bursting into a riot of color: crimson reds, rusty yellows, and burnt oranges.  The wind blows through outstretched branches and leaves dance like dying embers before falling to the ground.  One of my favorite places to witness nature’s glory is in the town of Banner Elk.  With less than a three hours drive away from Charlotte, it makes for the perfect fall getaway.  The following photos were taken last year during the autumn months:

This post is part one of a four-part series that examines “the seasons in Banner Elk, North Carolina”.  I highly recommend staying at the Banner Elk Winery & Villa if you should find yourself in this part of the High Country no matter what time of the year it is.

How beautiful! I love your description of the Autumn. This is my second American Autumn that I’m missing because I’m the land of never ending summer-Thailand! It’s nice to see gorgeous photos of my favorite season!

I am happy that autumn is on the horizon. Probably my favorite season tied with summer and winter. I like the idea of spring, but we never really get a true spring in my neck of the woods. It is more like an ugly extension of winter. Great photos as usual.

That barn with all those windows on the side must be gorgeous inside. So lovely. I haven’t been to NC since I was a kid (my mother’s step mother lived there), but you and this Banner Elk Wineries are making me want to come back alright!
