Ask Andi Anything + Personal Planner Giveaway (Part 18)

October 6, 2014

Almost every day I am asked interesting questions from all over the world and I thought I would start sharing my responses to them, along with travel related giveaways.  I love questions, thus please feel free to ask me anything in the comments or send me a private message if you prefer.

Q81. Do you ever get burnt out from traveling?

A81. Yes, sometimes after a series of back to back trips I definitely feel burnt out and as soon as I start to feel that way I take at least one month off from traveling.  I never want to be a traveler who complains about traveling, which I think a lot of longterm travelers do.  Traveling is a blessing and should not be taken for granted!  Right now, at six months pregnant, I am definitely feeling burnt out after my last trip to New York City.  I have officially decided that I can no longer travel until my son arrives in 2015.  This will be the longest traveling hiatus for me in over a decade.  I plan to live vicariously through my traveling friends and other travel blogs.

Q82. Are you going to turn your blog into a Mommy blog?

A82. Definitely not!  Of course, my son will be my #1 passion in life, but I started this blog as a travel blog and it will forever remain a travel blog.  I will share news about Joaquín from time to time, however travel will always remain the focus of My Beautiful Adventures.

Q83. I seem to always get sick when I fly, as a Chinese Medicine Doctor do you have any tips for me to stay healthy?

A83. It is essential for people to protect their immune systems while they are airborne.  Personally, I start boosting mine at least one week in advance.  The easiest way to do it, besides getting regular acupuncture, is to consume one to two packets of Emergen-C a day (pink lemonade is my favorite).  I also like Airborne as well.  Also, when in flight, do your best to avoid sugar-laden food and drink.  From a Chinese Medicine perspective, sugar creates dampness and phlegm, which can lead to an environment where viruses and bacteria thrive.  It creates a petri dish in your sinuses and the back of your throat.  One more thing, keep your neck covered with a scarf.  Acupuncturists are always telling their patients about wearing scarves.  Your lungs are your first line of defense against external pathogenic factors that can easily enter your body through the pores of your neck thanks to the overhead AC.  On a plane the lungs are extra vulnerable!

Q84I LOVE the name Joaquín Alejandro for you son! How did you end up choosing it?

A84. Before Lucas and I were even married, we dreamed of what we would name our children one day.  I had a girl’s name that was a must for me and he had a boy’s name that was a must for him: Joaquín.  He has always been obsessed with the name and as soon as he told me it, I loved it too!  Alejandro is Lucas’ middle name and my brother’s name is Alexander, so that seemed like the perfect middle name.

Q85Is there a destination that your husband really wants to travel to, but maybe you are not that excited about?

A.85. Lucas desperately wants to go to Russia.  I am interested in visiting, however it is definitely not a dream destination of mine.

For this giveaway I am offering the chance to win a brand-new personalized planner from Personal Planner.  Some of you might remember that last year I offered this same giveaway.  I fell so madly in love with this product, that I simply had to partner up with this amazing company yet again.  I did not change much from my previous planner, since I felt it was perfect for me, however the website offers brand new designs and sizes.  I cannot go anywhere without mine!  Here is a look at what it looks like:

I always bring a scarf with me on airplanes, but I had no idea how good it was healthwise! Maybe that explains why I’ve never gotten sick from traveling on an airplane. 🙂 Beautiful planner, Andi. 🙂

Just wanted to let everyone know that I won this planner last year in Andi’s giveaway and it is FANTASTIC! I loved it so much that I wrote a review and they hosted a giveaway on my blog last year, and the company and I are partnering up again for another one this year. They have fantastic customer service. Most of my friends have ordered one after seeing mine and I’m anxiously awaiting the arrival of my 2015 planner!

Love the planner. I always need to write everything down as I forget. Do you have any tips for Children who suffer from travel sickness or get nervous when travelling. We use Kwells at mo which help a bit and Bach Rescue Remedy?
