Rome is a wonderful city. It really does have something to offer everyone, including those of you who love the arts. Here are some of the highlights that are sure to please:
A Night At The Opera
Year-round, you can enjoy classical opera concerts in Rome. However, if you like something a bit different, I highly recommend experiencing an outdoor performance. In the summer, you can enjoy watching a stellar performance of a classic opera in the surroundings of the Baths of Caracalla. It is definitely a once in a lifetime experience that you will never forget.
Visit The Vatican Museums
When it comes to the Arts the Vatican Museums are the place to head. They are absolutely stuffed with beautiful paintings, textiles, sculptures, and much more. Plus, of course, that is where you need to go to see Michelangelo’s Sistine Chapel.
There is an unbelievable amount to see in the Vatican, so it is the one place where it really is worth your while hiring a guide. They will take you into all of the little nooks and crannies, so you will not miss anything. Plus, they will help you to negotiate the crowds. It gets horribly busy in the Vatican, thus if you do not want to get too stressed getting a guide makes a lot of sense.
Bramante’s Tempietto
This beautiful church gives you a chance to get away from the crowds. Plus, the walk up from Trastevere is lovely. It gives you the chance to clear your head and take in some beautiful architecture on your journey. There is not a long list of art to enjoy here, but the setting makes it a wonderful experience.
Enjoy A Play Or Show
There are eleven theatres or public spaces in which you can regularly enjoy live performances. You will be surprised by how much variety is available. At the Anfiteatro della Quercia del Tasso, which is an amphitheatre you can enjoy Greek or Latin plays. Occasionally, they also perform Venetian comedy.
The Silvano Toti Globe Theatre is a wooden Elizabethan style building that holds just 1,250 people. It is a wonderful place to see a play, but be careful when buying tickets. In total, there are 450 standing spots, thus if you want a seat be sure to buy the right type of ticket.
If you are looking for something really different the Teatro di Roma – India is the place to head. It is a multi-staged venue that is built inside an industrial unit. This does not sound very promising, however they do stage some really unusual plays and host many experimental theatre events.
Visit Some Of Rome’s Beautiful Art Galleries
No visit to Rome would be complete without a trip to the Maxxi – The National Museum of Art from the 21st Century. It is a huge space, which means you can enjoy all kinds of art installations. Works by Francesco Clemente and Anish Kapoor are among their permanent collection.
The Museo Nazionale dell’Alto Medioevo is a small museum that is not well-known. It is full of medieval works of art and crafts. The most stunning of which is an entire hall that was moved piece by piece from a villa in Ostia. It is quite like anything else you would have seen before. These images give you a taste of what you can expect to see.
