Buddh International Circuit, Greater Noida
Officially inaugurated on October 18, 2011, Buddh International Circuit located in Greater Noida is India’s only Formula 1 circuit. This racetrack hosted the very first Indian Grand Prix on October 30 in 2011.
It is a 5.125 kilometer long track was used to stage the F1 race for more than two years-2012 and 2013. The entire provision is owned by one of India’s greatest conglomerates, Jaypee Group. The place was devised by a German architect and Formula One Management’s racetrack designer, Hermann Tilke and can seat around 120,000 people. Madras Motor Race Track, Chennai
India’s first circuit, the 3.74 kilometers long permanent race track is located in Irungattukottai, Chennai. Constructed in late 1980s, this racetrack was given a green flag in 1990. Running clockwise, this circuit has 12 turns in total along with the short club track which is only 2.1 kilometers long and has 7 turns.
This FIA and FIM certified racetrack was earlier popular with the name- Irungattukottai Race Track. In 2015, after receiving the Grade 2 license, it was allowed to host bike races under all categories along with car races in various categories including sportscar, GT, touring car race and more.
Kari Motor Speedway, Coimbatore
Inaugurated in 2003, the Kari Motor Speedway is a 2.1 kilometer racetrack situated in Chettipalayam, Coimbatore. It was named after a racer and a designer, SundaramKarivardhan. Its history reveal that a part of this track was formerly used as a runway for power gliders along with half its part used by aviation manufacturing company which was owned by Karivardhan. Just like Madras Motor Racetrack, this speedway has hosted various motor racing events including National Motorcycle championships, National Karting Championship races, single-seater championships of JK Tyre and MRF.
Along with these known and popular racetracks, there are number of other prominent kart tracks which host Indian National Karting Championship. These include MecoKartopia in Bangalore, Mohite Racing Academy in Kolhapur and Chicane Circuit in Hyderabad.
