How To Prepare For A Road Trip Alone

February 14, 2020

A road trip alone can be a great experience, with lots of time to spend surrounded by amazing scenery and time to be alone. You get the top choice of music or audiobooks and you can stop wherever you like. Just you and the open road, ultimate independence and freedom. However, a road trip alone can also be dangerous if you become tired or break down somewhere. Therefore, it is important to be prepared. If you do get into an accident on the road then you will need to find an ‘accident attorney near me’.

Know Your Limits

Some people can drive for twelve hours, others need to stop after four. This is because of the physical toll of sitting in one place or because of boredom or tiredness. Know what you are able to do and plan accordingly. Your limits might change depending on if it is dark, the weather’s bad, or if the road is long and straight. Take all of these things into consideration when planning your route.

Plan Ahead

Plan your journey and set out how much time you want to spend in each place. You may also want to research any good pitstops along the way, from famous cafes to hidden sites. Give yourself plenty of time to rest. You may want to pre-book your accommodation, as this can save you money and gives you the security of knowing where you are going to sleep each night. It will also help you to keep to schedule.

If you do not plan you may miss out on something that you would have loved to see. Some amazing things might be just a few minutes detour from your route.

Be Prepared

Pre-download plenty of music and audiobooks to keep you busy. Dress comfortably, so that you can keep driving.

Remember that you can still burn through glass if the windows are not tinted. Prepare with plenty of sunscreen and water to keep yourself hydrated. You may also want to have plenty of snacks handy. This could result in you being able to drive for longer.

You also need your vehicle to be prepared. If you are using your car give it a good service before you leave. You should also make sure you have a spare tire, jump cables, a first aid kit and a torch. Also make sure you have break down cover, with numbers handy. Keep your phone charged, you may want to invest in a car charger for your phone.

If you are renting a car then take their insurance. It could save you a lot of money. And if your road trip is abroad then you will also need travel insurance.

Stay In Touch

When traveling alone you should also keep someone updated as to where you are and where you are going. That way if the worse does happen, someone will know where to look for you. You can always use WhatsApp to keep in touch with family and send them pictures of your adventure. If you are traveling to a new country save money and be prepared with a local sim card.
