When my husband Lucas first came to the United States from Argentina almost 2 decades ago, he took whatever work he could find while waiting for his green card. One of those jobs was helping at my father’s restaurant.
What started as a necessity, eventually became something much more meaningful.
Over the years, Lucas built friendships there that have lasted a lifetime. Even though he now owns his own company and spends most of his weekdays behind a desk, he still picks up shifts at the restaurant. Part of it is the exercise. Part of it is the camaraderie. And part of it is simply that some places become part of your story.
The only downside? Years of being on his feet have taken a toll.
Between long restaurant shifts, walking our dog Panda, keeping up with our son on the soccer pitch, and juggling the responsibilities that come with work and family life, Lucas spends far more time on his feet than most people realize.
Like many men, he has never been particularly interested in comfort-focused footwear. If a shoe looked good, that was usually enough. The problem is that stylish shoes and supportive shoes do not always go hand in hand.
That is why I was excited when KURU Footwear — a shoe brand I have personally been using and loving for years — offered Lucas the opportunity to try their ATOM 2.
At first glance, you would never guess these shoes were designed with comfort and support in mind. They look like the sleek, modern sneakers he would naturally choose for himself. In fact, that was one of the first things he commented on after opening the box.
The men’s ATOM 2 combines a contemporary athletic design with the kind of support that many people do not realize they need until they experience it for themselves. KURU’s signature heel-hugging technology is designed to cradle the foot and absorb impact throughout the day, making them an excellent option for people who spend hours walking, standing, or moving between responsibilities.
For Lucas, that meant a shoe he could wear during a busy day without feeling like he was sacrificing style for comfort.
One thing I have learned over the years is that parents are often the last people to prioritize themselves. They invest in their families, their work, their homes, and the people they love. Meanwhile, simple things that could make their daily lives easier are pushed aside.
That is one reason I think practical gifts can sometimes be the most meaningful.
A comfortable pair of shoes may not seem like the most exciting Father’s Day present at first, but when that gift helps someone feel better every single day, it becomes something much more valuable.
Watching Lucas wear his new KURU shoes moving through his daily routine reminded me that comfort is not a luxury. It is an investment in the people we love.
This Father’s Day, if you are shopping for a dad who never slows down, KURU Footwear is worth considering. The ATOM 2 proves that supportive footwear no longer has to look orthopedic or outdated. Instead, it offers the best of both worlds: modern style and all-day comfort.
And if your dad, husband, or father figure is anything like Lucas, it may just be a gift he never would have bought for himself, but will be grateful to have every day afterward.
