Soho House: New York City, New York
First Impression
Looking for the ultimate in privacy and exclusivity? Look no further than the glamorous Soho House New York. This Manhattan private club and luxury hotel exemplifies the age-old formula: go to New York City and dream big. In typical Big Apple fashion, this property is all about making the most of what you have. Part of Chic Retreat’s boutique hotel collection, its six floors are packed with as much entertainment and variety as space would allow for, including a year-round heated rooftop swimming pool that was made famous around the world thanks to an episode of Sex And The City.
Location
Soho House New York is located in the heart of the Meatpacking District, which is definitely one of the most happening parts of town. The surrounding streets are buzzing with alfresco diners and drinkers spilling out onto the street. The black smoked-glass doors of the hotel can be challenging to spot at first, only adding to the property’s secretive allure. Once they are opened they reveal an intimate lobby with a simple black desk and distressed leather chairs. Only the stunning Swarovski chandeliers allude to the swanky interiors on the floors above.
The Room
The guest rooms have various floorplans, ranging from the 325 square foot “small room” to the palatial 950 square foot “large room”. If you are lucky enough to be staying in one of the medium or large rooms expect your bathtub to be inside of your room and not inside of your bathroom — a unique feature of the Soho House chain that sets them apart from other boutique hotels. Being that my husband and I were on our babymoon, we would have greatly appreciated an upgrade to a larger space, but due to the hotel’s popularity every room was sold out. Hence, we stayed in a small room. The style is understated and chic: a mix of contemporary and antique furniture. The beds are draped in Egyptian cotton sheets and there are massive plasma screen TVs, just in case you are able to tear yourself away from the fantastic views of Manhattan. There are also mini-bars, espresso and tea machines, and all of the libations your heart could desire with fresh limes and lemons. Maybe the Soho House is a bit pricey for you. Maybe the Soho House is a bit pricey for you. Just make sure if you are looking to save money that you avoid hotels with a serious bed bug problem.
The Bathroom
The en suite bathroom was my favorite part about the room. Inside you will discover the entire collection of Cowshed Spa bath products, which I instantly fell in love with. Although we did not have a bathtub, the spacious shower made up for it, as did the plush robes and heated towel racks. Also on offer are a myriad of other complimentary travel sized bath products that you might have forgotten to bring along with you, but are a necessity to a comfortable stay.
The Extras
The hotel has a strict no photography rule, even for press. Thus, I was unable to photograph anything besides our room. Soho House New York enjoys its reputation for serving a hip clientele. You never know whose shoulders you will brush while taking in a movie in the fourth-floor screening room or who might sidle up next to you for a cocktail at the sixth-floor bar? The Cowshed Spa is wonderful place to primp and pamper yourself as well.
Why It Is Andi’s Pick
As they say, New York City never sleeps, however we never once heard any street noise from our room. We found it the perfect place for a quiet night’s sleep!
Looks beautiful, even without the upgrade! Though I’m sure your pregnant footsies would’ve loved that bath… I hope everything is going well and that you have a beautiful babymoon!
It was definitely beautiful, but yes I would have loved the upgrade! 🙂
This looks so gorgeous, but it must have been tough not to take photos of anything else! I’m sure that the rest of the hotel is just as fabulous, and it would be hard to pass up a photo op at that pool.
It was sooooo tough! I wanted to take a million pics, especially of the pool! 🙂
I llllove the decor, especially that desk! Thanks for sharing 🙂
Yes, the desk is gorgeous!
This is really a neat hotel, Andi. Just pinned to my dreamy hotel board on Pinterest.
Oh yay! Thanks for pinning!!!
