Joaquín’s First Birthday (Part 1)

January 10, 2016

So, in other news. . .the mini-love-of-my-life turned one last week and I am still in shock! I handled the day as gracefully as possible and then at 5:56PM (his birth time), I was completely overwhelmed with emotion and I proceeded to sob for ten minutes straight. My poor son had no idea what was wrong with his mom, but I kept promising him and everyone around me that they were happy tears! I still cannot wrap my head around how lucky I am to be his mother. Although motherhood is the most challenging thing I have ever experienced, I also wake up every day feeling like I won the lottery. And just when I think I cannot possibly love him more than I already do, my heart grows even bigger.

Before Joaquín’s smash cake celebration, we decided to take a couple of family photos behind my parents house. Let me just say, it was not my son’s best day. We had to wake him up early from his afternoon nap and he was not happy in the least bit. Having said that, I am so thrilled that I have these beautiful family photos to treasure for the rest of my life.

I hope this was the first of many photo shoots with our lovely and talented friend Jeanette Charlete. Like me, she is a mom, photographer, and travel blogger! Can you guess from these photos what the theme of Joaquín’s Birthday was?

Happy birthday, J! What great pictures – when the time comes that we have a baby I’m going to have to remember to take as many family photos as you guys do. I can only imagine how grateful you’re going to be to have so many memories of Joaquín as a baby.
