I am so very excited to be partaking in the One Room Challenge (ORC) as a Guest Participant this Spring 2016. To be perfectly honest, I never imagined that I would own a home AND that I would love decorating it as much as I do. As a previous-nomad, the idea of purchasing a property and all of belongings that would tie me to it did not appeal to me in the slightest. After I was married and now especially since becoming a mother, I allowed myself to open up to the idea of buying a house, as I knew my family needed a home base. Although I found the process extremely stressful, I am so elated that at the end of the day my husband and I decided to go for it. We are blessed to have found our dream home in the perfect location in Charlotte, North Carolina.
Unfortunately, I missed Week One of ORC, due to illness. Thus, this post is a little behind schedule. In Week One’s post, I was supposed to introduce my space to my readers and discuss my plan of action. I have chosen to use my kitchen for this challenge. The following photos show exactly what the kitchen looked liked after we were handed the keys.
As you can see, our house has an open floor plan, which was incredibly important to us. What was not important, was the size of the kitchen, as neither my husband nor I cook. Having said that, I do think we will be more inspired if we have a beautiful kitchen. What I love about the space already is how white it is. We have always had an obsession with all-white kitchens and we were lucky that the previous owners thought similar to us.
Since I prefer gold to silver and all of the appliances are silver, I plan to decorate with lots of gold, rose gold, and copper accents. I need to find a wine rack, paper towel holder, coffee machine, trays, candles, artwork, silverware, plates, bowls, coffee cups, coasters, wine and champagne glasses, a fruit bowl, flowers, vases, pots, pans, etc. The first thing I am getting rid of is the red stuff the previous owners had staged the house with. I will also need to purchase a rug. Thankfully, I adore the granite counter tops. I know, I have a lot of work to do these next five weeks!
Love it Andi!! Your new home is so beautiful! I’m so excited to follow along and watch you transform this space into your own! One day I’ll have a home of my own to participate in the ORC with haha!

Hey Andi! Were you able to sell your old fixtures (chandelier, etc?) I have some to get rid of and don’t know what to do with them! I would like to put them to good use for someone who needs them.
Stephanie
We donated ours to people that we knew who needed them, the rest was given to Goodwill. I was going to try and sell some of the nicer pieces, but just lacked time and needed to get stuff out of the house ASAP. I will let you know if I know someone else that might need yours!!!
