Causes and treatment for scabs and sores on scalp

Scalp sores and scabs can cause your scalp to itch and can be uncomfortable. If you keep on scratching the affected place your scabs and sores might get infected. However, these issues can be treated mostly with simple medication.

In case the problem does not go away and you are not sure what is causing the problem, you should see a doctor.

These problems can be caused due to contact dermatitis. It is an allergic reaction that can be caused due to jewelry or beauty products.

Various other materials can cause this problem such as latex, poison ivy, battery acid, or bleach.

Allergies can cause scalp sores and if you scratch them, scabs can be formed.

Treatment

You don’t have to worry about this problem much as it clears up on its own usually. However, if you think an infection is building up or you feel pain, you should visit a doctor.

Seborrheic dermatitis

Seborrheic dermatitis or dandruff can cause itching, flaking, or scabbing in your scalp. This is usually in form of white or yellow patches.

Dandruff does not indicate that you have a health issue or cleanliness issues. The reason why it is build-up is still unknown.

It may take some time to get rid of dandruff and in some cases, it is impossible to do so.

Treatment

For dandruff, you can always just use shampoos or creams made to treat dandruff. Various shampoos to cure dandruff are available in the market.

Make sure your shampoo includes, pyrithione zinc, salicylic acid, selenium sulfide, or tar to efficiently treat your problem.

If these shampoos do not help try to get a medicated shampoo, that contains the ingredient, ketoconazole. This ingredient, however, might change the texture of your hair, cause itching, or irritation.

Make sure to contact your doctor if you face any of these problems.

Scalp psoriasis

Different parts of your body can be affected because of this condition. However, on your scalp, this condition might cause thick scabs.

Treatment

You can treat this condition with simple medicated shampoos. You should specifically get shampoos that are made to treat scalp problems and stop the itching. Make sure your shampoo includes salicylic acid and tar in it.

After using the shampoos, if you still do not feel okay, visit your doctor for more guidance.
