Cheap Ways To Turn Your Bathroom Into A Spa

September 14, 2021

We all need to unwind from time to time. In times like this when we are spending a lot of time at home, it is important to have a safe haven in your own home. For most homeowners, their safe haven at home is their bathroom. A bathroom is one of the few places where you can be by yourself and relax.

However, for some homeowners, having a spa-like bathroom may not seem ideal. Whether it is because their bathrooms are small and their bathroom vanities are already taking up too much space, or maybe because there is an assumption that having a spa-like bathroom is expensive.

But contrary to this popular belief, there are actually a lot of cheap and affordable ways you can transform your humble and plain bathroom into your own personal spa. Here are some you should definitely consider:

  1. Incorporate Natural Stones

An element that you see in almost every spa is natural stones.

There are a lot of creative ways you can incorporate natural stones into your bathroom. You can remodel your shower floor and use natural stones as your base and fill in the crevices with cement. You can be extremely creative with the shapes and colors of the stones that you use here.

You can also use natural stones as decoration. In some parts of the world, certain types of stones are considered to have natural healing properties. Some of these stones are rose quartz, clear quartz, and amethyst to name a few.

Depending on which healing properties or benefits you’re looking for, there are a lot of options to choose from. The fact that these stones are extremely beautiful to look at is just an added bonus.

  1. Faux Wood Flooring

Incorporating natural stones for your bathroom floor isn’t the only option. If you are not a huge fan of natural stones, there are also a number of options for faux wood flooring.

Most people would stay away from using wood in such a damp environment as a bathroom since it is not ideal. However, it cannot be denied that wood flooring can immediately promote the feeling of peace and relaxation.

A faux wood flooring or tile is made of either porcelain or ceramic that imitates the look and texture of natural wood. It is made to be durable in damp areas such as a bathroom due to its higher resistance to water. Just like natural stones, there are also a lot of options for designs, textures, and colors for faux wood tiles.

  1. Clear Glass Jars

If you are looking for something a lot more simple and easy fix to transform your bathroom into a more relaxing space, then you can make use of clear glass jars to organize your toiletries.

There is nothing more stressful than seeing a cluttered bathroom. Have you ever noticed how clean and organized it is at a spa? They have all of these hidden and extra cabinets to keep all of their linens and items. However, for most homeowners, storage space is a luxury that they cannot afford especially when it comes to their bathrooms.

Instead of trying to hide everything underneath your bathroom vanity or behind your cabinet doors, try to experiment with the way you store your toiletries. By using clear glass jars to hide items such as your Q-tips or even cotton pads, they will look less cluttered even when it’s placed on top of your vanity.

  1. Adjust Your Lighting

Lighting can gravely affect the mood and atmosphere in any space and the bathroom is no exception. If you are looking for a cheap upgrade that can immediately transform your bathroom then you should start with changing your lights.

This upgrade is for homeowners who prefer to have a nice relaxing time after a rough day at work or weekend. By installing adjustable lighting that comes with dimmer controls, you can instantly soften the lighting in your bathroom. This can help you attain the spa-like feel when you’re either taking a shower or a soak in your bathtub.

If you have the extra hundred dollars, you can ask your trusted electrician to help you install recessed ceiling lighting for a better and more full effect.

  1. Bring In More Life With Plants

In order to make your bathroom more relaxing and inviting, you can bring in more life by bringing in more plants. Most homeowners stay away from placing plants in their bathrooms since the environment can be tricky.

Not only is it always humid, but the temperature can fluctuate as well. On top of that, some bathrooms have very limited sunlight which is not good for more plants. However, there are actually a number of plants that are strong enough to survive this tough environment.

You can go for plants such as pothos which do not require constant watering and a high level of sunlight to grow and survive. Air plants are also a great option for you since they absorb the humidity right after your showers and baths. On top of that, since they do not really need planters, you have a bigger set of options to choose from when it comes to how you want to display it.

Lastly, if you are not particularly great with plants, you can go for the snake plant. Snake plants are notorious for being a plant that is impossible to kill. It can survive in harsh conditions which makes it ideal for a place such as a bathroom.

  1. Keep Your Floors Warm

You might think that in order to keep your bathroom floor warm, you would have to install something high-tech and fancy. But you can also keep your bathroom floor warm with just a simple and cheap upgrade, and those are with mats or rugs.

Not only will it prevent and limit bathroom accidents from happening, but it can also add a touch of luxury and help keep your bare feet warm. Depending on the overall theme of your bathroom, you can go for a white or black rug if you’re going for a minimalistic and modern spa look and feel for your bathroom. However, if you are looking for something that is homey and relaxing, you can go for a nude-tone rug.

You can also choose from a plain rug or a patterned rug. As long as this complements the rest of your bathroom and will not overpower or mess with its balance, then you should be fine.

  1. Use A Wooden Ladder For Storage

Traditionally, people store their towels on either their cabinets or towel bars. However, if you want to give your bathroom an extra personal touch that will add to its overall ambiance, then try using a wooden ladder for your towels.

Simply lay a wooden ladder next to a wall and strategically place your towels there. The more natural elements you bring into your bathroom, the more relaxing it will look.

  1. Upgrade To A Massage Showerhead

A lot of homeowners would automatically give up the idea of having a spa-like bathroom if they do not have the space to accommodate a tub. However, a massage showerhead is a great alternative for this.

Aside from the fact that it won’t take up as much space as a bathtub, you are most likely to use a massage showerhead daily unlike a bathtub. Of course, enjoying a nice warm soak at the end of the day would be great but for many homeowners, they don’t have the luxury of time and energy as well to set up a bathtub.

Compared to the amount of money you will spend buying and installing a bathtub, upgrading your ordinary showerhead into a massage showerhead will definitely be more cost-effective. The spa-like shower of a massage showerhead will definitely help you relax more and achieve a relaxing bath.

  1. Curate Your Bathroom’s Scent

A home spa experience would not be complete without aromatherapy. Scents are popular for aiding a person’s health and well-being. Your first option would be to use essential oils. Paired with a diffuser, these essential oils are said to enhance both the physical and emotional health of a person.

However, if you are not entirely familiar or privy to the world of essential oils, you can just go for scented candles. You can opt for something that is a musky scent or a scent that is more earthy such as cedarwood or sandalwood.

You can also choose to go a lot more simple and just ensure that your favorite body lotion inventory is always good. Other scented body care products such as your body soap or shampoo can also help and keep you relaxed as you shower.

  1. Bring In Some Music

In order to provide you with a full spa experience, you have to be able to touch all of your five senses. What has often been neglected in bathroom upgrades and remodelings is the sense of hearing.

For as simple as bringing in a Bluetooth speaker that you can easily access and connect to your phone, you can now enjoy a full spa experience with complementing relaxing music. If you are worried about it getting wet, there are plenty of waterproof Bluetooth speakers available online as well. Just be sure that when you are looking for a speaker, you keep in mind the colors of your bathroom to keep within the theme.
